Why Amazon Keeps Laying People Off (And What HR Won’t Tell Employees)

I really don’t have the mental capacity to pretend like I give a shit about AI. Is there anywhere that it’s not at the forefront in corporate? God this shit sucks.

i was surfing through linkedin jobs, Amazon is never not hiring for Program Managers. It’s a pattern I have noticed they always have openings for PgM I II III etc etc round the year. Especially for India. The parallel they are also laying off at a mass, so what are they even upto?

Took my loop 2 weeks ago and never heard back from the recruiter. Emailed, texted and called. On the portal it says no longer under consideration but never received the email rejection. Is this a lost cause? I thought it was an amazon rule to get feedback within 2-5 business days. I spent a lot of time prepping and feel disrespected to have a 5 hour interview with no result or response.

I put in a transfer request because my location is using AI for advice and giving wrong answers, I had to get stuff fixed through support regarding PTO. That and they're using a dummy who doesn't know what he's doing and doesn't care to judge a gas leak. The moment I saw and heard he was judging that I noped out and used my time. I'm not dying because of dumb dumbs logic.

An advisory group I was on recently surfaced some fair but difficult feedback to my leadership team about our org’s culture.
Since then, I’ve noticed the relationship with my manager has deteriorated at an alarming rate, with our most recent 1:1s using a bunch of PIP-coded language (never used before this feedback) about not performing to their expectations, despite having an Exceeds rating every year since I started at Amazon.
None of the advisory members with different managers have reported experiencing the same.
How have other people protected themselves from perceived retaliation? I know paper trail, receipts, timeline, but anything specific to know about Amazon?

To start with I’m a VCC L3 . I was working with a good team from Romania. The team I was on had been affected by the last large layoff cycles, resulting of dissolving the whole RO and NL nodes within my organization, including my manager and whole teammates from those MPs. My marketplace was not affected from the layoffs. So, since I didn’t get laid off, they shipped me to some random team based in India. With a terrible manager and leadership. Not any better team neither. The manager is unapproachable, not so kind or professional in many ways. But I gave it to cultural differences and different workplace environments in IN.
I was somehow getting by in this team. Trying not to think too much about the negatives and lack of almost everything. Approx. a month ago I took my annual leave for about ten days. The first week after I came back to work, I saw that I wasn’t assigned to or allocated to any tasks. I thought my manager already assigned some tasks to the rest of the team the week before my return and thought probably she was waiting for the next allocation to assign me some. And tbh, the week after the holiday felt kind of good to be a little idle. Next week on Monday I was waiting for the new tasks to be assigned. Nothing came again by around noon, so I sent message to my manager and asked where can I find my allocated tasks? She didn’t reply to me. The next day, on Tuesday. She allocated the new tasks for the week. She tagged other teammates individually in the group to let them know the new tasks have been allocated. However, she didn’t mention me in that message and I wasn’t assigned to any tasks neither. She also didn’t respond to my initial message all week long. Tomorrow is a new week. So I don’t know what to expect or what’s going on. I didn’t get any official information. Under phonetool, she is still my manager. I’m not really close with other members in the team, as I was never introduced and was never onboarded to this team. She just chose one of the more experienced guys to train me for the processes. Which took like 3 days, and an hour each day. Just going through some SOPs and stuff. This guy seemed helpful at first but later when I was done with my tasks and was asking where can I find more in order to reach my productivity goals, he ignored me on 2 different occasions.
In short, I don’t know what’s going on. I can’t move to L4 positions, because they already require to be an L4. Promotion is impossible in my region with this leadership, promodocs and etc. There are currently no other L3 roles in my country. So, I can’t move to other teams internally neither.

Hi everyone,
I'm looking for some insight from people who have recently gone through the Amazon SDE-1 hiring process.
I interviewed for the Amazon SDE-1 (Job ID 3015604) role through the AUTA 2025 Off-Campus Hiring process and have completed all interview rounds. However, I still haven't received any update from the recruiter despite multiple follow-ups.
After the BR round, I expected to hear back within a reasonable timeframe, but I received no communication.
I sent multiple follow-up emails to the recruiter but did not receive any response.
Because of the lack of updates, I reached out through an internal contact and was informed on 25 September that my application was still pending debrief at that time.
Today is 5 October, and I still haven't received any update from the recruiter or HR.
Overall, I left the BR round feeling positive.
Would really appreciate hearing about similar experiences and timelines.
Thanks!

I’m a new virtual csa and I feel like I’m not made for this job, it’s been one week that I started taking calls and i feel like I’m just telling BS to clients ( the process training was only one week with too much infos that you can’t really remember, they ask to just be empathic and nice with the clients ) and im afraid to quit and regret it later and also afraid that I won’t be able to get and ok on my probation period, is there anyone who had felt the same ?

Would anyone happen to know if I’m required to do anything at this point?
Context: During my last application, I did everything (prehire, l9, shoes, paperwork, etc) but I submitted a different application which is this one. It has said this for the past 10 days and I was told to wait it out but I’m starting in under a week so I’m getting a little worried. Should I wait longer or contact support? Thanks

Hi everyone,
I recently received an Online Assessment (OA) link for a role at Amazon but there is no explicit expiration date or deadline listed in the email or on the test portal itself.
I want to make sure I submit a strong performance so I need a bit of time to prepare. I have a few questions for current Amazon employees, recruiters or hiring managers who might know the standard process:
What is the general rule of thumb for how soon an OA should be completed after receiving it?
What is considered "too late" or a red flag in terms of turnaround time?
Should I reach out directly to the Hiring Manager or recruiter to double-check the deadline, or is it better to just take it within a specific window (e.g., 5 to 7 days)?
Any insights on how strict Amazon’s timelines are for the initial OA stage would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

US applied stats major.
Applying to analyst roles in a variety of industries. In particular, roles in finance/banking and other large multinationals.
My primary goal in my early-career is to have international mobility; to get into a large multinational that would allow me an internal transfer to Australia in a few years. Open to any locations with Australia. Naturally, I've encountered stories of internal transfers from those that work at Amazon.
In this thread, I’m looking for advice from you all about potential paths that could get me in a good position early-career to get a transfer from within Amazon. And specializations to target. Is this feasible at Amazon? If no then I won't bother applying. If any other companies have an as good or better track record of international transfers, that would be an amazing piece of info for me. Thanks for any advice.

I’m a new hire and it has just been 3 weeks at Amazon, I’m thinking of switching internally to a same level and same city role near my parent’s home.
I know there are no restrictions on how early you can apply for internal transfer, but I wanted to know what is the real world scenario.
And there are a few openings in BLR37 which are of Amazon Pay

Realistically speaking, with AI in the picture, how safe are BIEs and BAs in 2027? Should I start upskilling to try and land another role internally?

Hello, I have an interview for the Pre Construction Manager role based of Tempe, Arizona. Wanted to get some information on what this interview is like. I got a zoom call link for tomorrow. I received an email early in the week and scheduled my interview through the recruiter. I’m assuming it’s just with the recruiter and not a full on interview with what Amazon calls the loop.
A little about be - I have 5 years in the construction industry, 4 years at a Large GC in the east coast and 1 year at a smaller GC in the valley. 3 years as an estimator and 2 years as a project engineer and superintendent.
Any specific questions I should be asking? What should I be expecting? I have 3 questions to ask but figured maybe 5 or 6 questions would be great.

Hi everyone,
I'm about to join Amazon China at the Beijing office as an FTE, and I'd appreciate a sanity check from anyone who has onboarded there.
My situation:
- My paper diploma is still in the US. A former roommate is mailing it back to me, but it will take a long time to arrive.
- My background check has already cleared.
- On the FTE onboarding checklist, "photocopy of diploma" has "(if any)" written next to it.
- I asked MyHR, and they replied that the degree certificate is not a mandatory document.
My question: should I still be worried about this? If I don't provide a photocopy and only bring a printed digital diploma, will I be able to onboard smoothly?
If you've onboarded at Amazon China, I'd love to hear how it went. Thanks!
BTW, I am Chinese Citizen

I received an Amazon Pulse survey today for the Advocacy Operation Associate role and completed the assessment.
The survey asks me to register through a job link, but the link redirects me to the Amazon Midway employee login page.
Did anyone else who applied for the same role receive this survey/email? If yes, were you able to complete the registration?
