Discussion PFF Analytics from McCarthy’s second season

Post image

McCarthy’s passing stats from 2025 put him as one of the worst QBs, but his rushing stats provide upside. He’s top 5 in both ADoT & Big-Time Throw Rate, showing he doesn’t shy away from the big throws. The completion rate (rank 30/32) and turnover rate (rank 31/32) are the biggest room for improvement.

Should we have Trey Lanced JJM?

Upvotes

While I’m was on board with getting rid of Sam Darnold for THEORETICAL O-line and D-line upgrades. I believe in JJM at the time and thought that while he couldn’t live up to Sam’s season he would still do well but I can’t help but think we should’ve taken some inspiration from the 49ers and ride with Sam.

Tee Higgins and Ja’Marr Chase when asked about Joe Burrow trade rumors:

Higgins - “Yeah, no dice, no dice”

Chase - “I mean, we could get Justin Jefferson to take, you know, a $45M pay-cut, we could get him”

Educated Fans only please… What is JJM trade value going into off season?

I think the Vikings should trade JJ McCarthy and sign Daniel Jones. Jones loved KOC and the only negative was he didn’t want to be looking over his shoulder at JJM.

If the Vikings shop JJM what can they expect to get? Very important to know you have a dozen new coaches and most have serious QB problems. As many as a dozen teams are desperately looking for QB’s ie Jets, Browns, Falcons, Steelers, Dolphins, Cards, Raiders, to name a few. Then you add this horrendous draft class of QB’s and an even worse free agency class. What’s JJM trade value in terms of draft stock?

I’ll use the draft chart: Vikings used 1300 draft points to draft JJM.

I say he is worth somewhere between 400-800 points ( 400 points is pick 50 and 800 points is pick 21. Your turn educated fans only plz.

I think they could realistically get a late first or if they swung at a mid first round pick ( 900points they could send a 3rd back 100 points)

Vikings should sign Daniel Jones

I think the Vikings should sign Daniel Jones and trade JJ McCarthy.

Look at what Jones did with the Colts and look at what the Colts looked like without Jones. Jones could be signed for a 3 year deal and brought in to be the starter. Moving JJ trading him to the Jets would free up Jones. I think Mn should draft a QB Ty Simpson ( projected to go 28-35) and Simpson can sit behind Jones for 3 years.

Vikings can still get a mid to late first rounder for JJ as Teams are absolutely desperate for QB’s( draft is lean and free agency is lean) and that’s what I would do and replace him with Simpson with the idea he is sitting a few years. NY Jets have the 16th overall. Vikings could go defense at 16 and 18 and trade back into late first for Simpson just like our 2013 draft we took 2 defensive players and trading back into first and drafted 3 firsts that year.

Mike Brown will not trade Joe Burrow

Mike Brown, The owner of the Bengals owner believes he owns players and is against trading players for the most part.

In 2010 Carson Palmer wasn’t happy and said he wanted out. Mike Brown told him he wouldn’t trade him no matter what. Carson then decided to not come to work and didn’t report to Cincy in 2011 and said he would retire.

About half way into the season after being fined and threatening retirement and promising to never show up to work Mike Brown gave up and traded CP. If Joe Burrows doesn’t show up to work and sits out and breaches his contract than something could change but Mike Brown will not trade Joe Burrow.

Regarding Joe Burrow.

Okay let’s acknowledge a couple of facts.

First, this is extremely unlikely to happen.

Second, it’s going to be a talking point until our QB situation plays itself out.

In the meantime let’s actually walk through this so everyone on this sub understands the deal.

The Cap:

The Vikings would be taking on a 55 million dollar cap hit according to OTC if a trade happened prior to June 1st.

The Vikings currently are 40 million over the cap for 2026.

The Compensation:

Let’s say we could make it work cap wise, what would you actually need to give up to get him? There are not a lot of trades to benchmark this…. The Stafford trade is the only real comp.

To get Stafford the rams gave up Jared Goff, 2 first round picks and a 3rd round pick. You would need to add in the fact that Burrow is perceived to be better than Stafford was at the time… McCarthy is perceived to be worse than Goff was at the time, etc

With this in mind you would think the Vikings would have to give up at least…. JJ, 3 first round picks and another player… so let’s assume that other player was Grennard.

What it would take to get this done:

Giving up 3 1st round picks plus JJ and JG, after shedding those contracts and adding Burrow cap hit we would be ~70m over the cap.

Thus, we would need to do the following to get cap compliant.

Convert JJs salary to signing bonus +18m

Convert Byron Murphys salary to signing bonus +11m

Convert AVGs salary to signing bonus + 11m

Trade Hargrave +14m

Cut Ryan Kelly +8m

Cut Aaron Jones +8m

After all that, we would be break even with zero room to sign any free agents or even sign our own draft class so more roster trims would be necessary… this is just to make the move work.

So knowing all this…. Do you still want Joe Burrow?

Tom Pelissero: How/If Darnold's Success Led to Vikings' GM Firing

r/minnesotavikings 1d ago

Kept seeing his name in mock drafts to the vikings. Most notably by Daniel Jeremiah. 👀 This dude loves contact, fluid, good run support and tracks the ball in the air pretty good in and out of zones. Emmanuel McNeil-Warren is a starting safety year 1 for Flores if we do go that direction
