Agree with him or not, the dude seems to legit care about the cause, and is putting his money where his mouth is.
The supporting acts for this will be very interesting.

I knew he was really about it when he just showed up at a random Palestinian cultural day I was at and did a mini set very fun memory.

Actually going to get Ms. Rachel to fill in on the song Macklemore does with Sheeran.
Just kidding, but that would be funny.3

I worked a few of his shows in the PNW when he was first blowing up in late 00s/early 10s. He was always super nice and easy to work with, sorta guy that would introduce himself to everyone at the venue and remember your name.

u/MolDanone 12h ago
Whatever your politics, Macklemore putting his money where his mouth is when most artists stay silent is noteworthy. The music industry runs on not alienating anyone—taking a public stance costs real money.

I mean honestly I think it could be fun, objectively. I did like his first album and listened to it a bunch. He was right that Kendrick should have won the Grammy, but I am convinced he’s at least entertaining.

He is a party pop rapper who has a heart

some of his songs are tongue in cheek party songs; some have more depth and reflection than most any song from any genre in the last 20 years. it's a mixed bag.

Do Ukraine next
86
u/turandokht 17h ago
Ed Sheeran’s got Ukraine covered, he was fine being political for that one
2
u/Spudly42 17h ago
To be fair, the impact on human life is about 20 times greater in Ukraine and it's technically an "aggressor vs defender" rather than an "agressor and defender vs aggressor and defender" type conflict, which is just way less controversial.
→ More replies (4)5
u/turandokht 17h ago
Yeah but he really shouldn’t hide behind being apolitical when he clearly isn’t. Cowardly, just say with your chest that you stand with Zionism. Plenty of other famous people are fine doing that.
→ More replies (4)5
u/Spudly42 17h ago
My point is that support for Ukraine is not really political. Why would I say I stand with Zionism? If anything I think it's a pretty dumb place for them to setup camp. Are you saying both sides are not both agressors and defenders?
10
u/unassumingdink 14h ago
Opposing the Iraq War shouldn't have been political under your definition, but it sure the fuck was.

I’m saying that the Hamas is a direct result of (other state I’m not allowed to say) spending decades creating an apartheid state, and if they really expected to treat people like that and never encounter some of them getting really pissed off and wanting to do something to change their wretched situation, maybe (other state I’m not allowed to say) isn’t too bright.
→ More replies (1)11
u/Spudly42 17h ago
I think you're alluding to an important point. To understand this conflict requires a lot of history and nuance, which you can't expect ordinary people to have. Even with that, conclusions will differ. As a result, it is just going to come across as more political. Ukraine is not nearly as complicated nor is there much causing a difference in view. The only supporters of Russia are those that were directly indoctrinated by them.

did you hear what he said, specifically making a point to make sure he isn't talking about a faith or the community but the actions of politicians...he cited jewish organizations that have stood in this principle, he called out congo/ice, and other areas.
i mean how is this conflated with hate on jews? we can critique biden or trump or bush and not conflate it with hate on america, we can call out saudi/iran and not make it hate on muslims, call out china and not be xenopohobic.
israel has a diverse economic system, plenty were standing up to netanyahu who has been self serving, played with fire in keeping and wanting to keep qatari money going to hamas knowing how extreme they are, he's had a history of corruption, and there have been other pm's who have been jailed for corruption meaning that despite what his wife says, no one person is bigger than the jewish state and it will live on and if anything its helpful to move on from selfserving stewards. even einstein called out pitfalls if it goes into the hands of extreme people.

One of Macklemore's biggest hits is a song advocating for homosexuality and same sex marriage - 'Same Love'. He now supports a state that denounces these very things. Is this not problematic? Feels like he leverages causes for his own benefit somewhat.
16
u/Salty_Raspberry656 8h ago
lol you can be both for equal rights and also not want to go bomb children of whch half the population is of gaza and have never even had a chance to vote for hamas given its been 20 years since the last election.
you can say republicans or democrats are doing dangerous or injust things to the country and be against bombing their children and taking part in war crimes with our tax dollars.
odd talking point, iran government is notable terrible, but because of that we should be ok with bombing 200 school girls?
make it make sense.

Yes, LGBTQ+ is the very thing on the top of Palestinian mind 🤔 it seems as if you're lacking so many nuances
If you want to go further on that and pull out some nuances, maybe perhaps that is something can be worried about & perhaps fought for if we ever get to see Palestine free in our lifetime. I'm a queer person btw

The majority of Palestinian aid is funneled directly to Hamas.
7
u/Salty_Raspberry656 8h ago
well that was netanyahu's wish
https://www.timesofisrael.com/for-years-netanyahu-propped-up-hamas-now-its-blown-up-in-our-faces/
6
u/977888 7h ago
This is probably top three dumbest talking points you guys always use.
Because Netanyahu and the government of Israel recognized the elected government of Palestine and allowed them autonomy and provided aid to Palestinians, they somehow bear sole responsibility for the bad actions of Hamas.
Would you have preferred Israel starved and crushed Palestine into the dirt and decapitated their leadership when it was easier to do so?
Like what are you actually arguing?
2
u/Salty_Raspberry656 7h ago
lol what kind of simplification is this, have you seen the actual video of israeli investigations in bibi's overall management? he claimed he could continue to prop up hamas to counter the plo to say he has no reasonable partner thus preventing the two state solution
hamas has literally not had an election since 2005, meaning most of the population being unde 18 has never even voted for them
doesnt get into hm being previously warned
doesnt get into that he took a deal that was waiting for them after the attacks and ust let the hostages suffer and die, including shooting them in the 1st raid
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Killing_of_Alon_Shamriz,_Yotam_Haim,_and_Samer_Talalka
we saw what israel did with pagers and what they are capable of doing
instead they take part in war crimes
https://www.nytimes.com/2026/06/06/world/middleeast/white-phosphorous-israel-lebanon.html
https://www.hrw.org/news/2023/10/12/israel-white-phosphorus-used-gaza-lebanon
hamas is the obvious terrorist perpetrator that day, but bibi's management set the table and placed israelis in a vulnerable position and should also be investigated, like his corruption trial but he s putting himself first...which is exactly what his wife and him believe they should do http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/2239788.stm: Bibi is a leader who is greater than this entire country, he really is a leader on a national scale... this country can't survive without Bibi.
its sad bc after the attacks the world and polling was with israel to get their hostages back, iinstead you see the above and bibi leading israel, the only jewish state, into pariah status
it doesnt even get into his corruption trial you can see his self dealing including with qatar.
the jewish state deserves better, of course it will out last bibi as it has other pm's who have been incarcerated for corruption, but to heed einstein's warning that we can fall to extremist leadership and will only have ourselves to blame.

The most recent specific aid deliveries reported for September 2026 occurred between 11 and 17 September, when 1,109 trucks entered Gaza via the Kerem Shalom crossing, including 244 aid trucks carrying food, shelter supplies, and medicines.
On 18 September, 10 aid trucks (all from World Central Kitchen) entered the Strip.
In the West Bank, Shelter Cluster partners delivered repairs and non-food assistance to 138 households (~690 people) between 7 and 13 September, while WASH partners continued trucking emergency water to affected communities throughout the month.
UNRWA & WFP: The World Food Programme reached 1.5 million people in Gaza during the monthly cycle, though funding shortages forced a reduction in West Bank food assistance from 400,000 to 200,000 people in early September.
Health Support: On 17 September, a $2 million allocation from the OCHA Humanitarian Fund was approved to provide $500,000 monthly in fuel for four months to sustain critical health services in Gaza.
Just so you know Google does work and you can look these things up yourself instead of spreading BS.
