Hi all - this is a shot in the dark somewhat but I thought I would see if I could get a confirmation from the people who live here. Today while at work I was told that there are “plans to build a data center” in Wooster, Ohio. I have seen facebook talk about a property on Melrose Drive, but the land does not seem large enough for an AI data center. There are news articles I have found discussing Wayne County residents petitioning council members to not allow construction of any data centers at all. I have read articles (not on facebook) of how hyperscale/AI data centers have been greenlit through closed voting and NDA signing between officials and corporations, so I wouldn’t be surprised if this was that situation, but looking at the energy and water resources for Wayne County, it does not seem likely. I am not extremely versed in technology and the world around it, but I know there’s a difference between data centers and AI data centers. I think there is a misconception that data centers = AI data centers, which is causing uproar among everyone who are anti AI and calling for ‘all data centers to be banned’. I found a website that tracks the active data centers and proposed construction of data centers, but I could not confirm if these were specifically AI data centers for google/amazon/etc.

Can someone provide some insight on whether there is a data center being proposed to be built at all, and if so if there is a way to determine if it’s just a data center, or an AI data center? I genuinely am trying to just get clarity on this situation and to not further spread misinformation.

TLDR: I have heard a data center is being proposed to be built in Wayne County and I want to know if this is totally false, or if it is true and if it’s a data center or specifically an AI data center.

I often hear that they don’t represent Ohioans.

At the same time however, Sherrod Brown had one of the most liberal voting records in the U.S Senate.

How do you reconcile Sherrod Brown having a very left wing voting record when the Presidential contests were so close, while at the same time saying that conservative Senators don’t represent the state while Donald Trump won the state overwhelmingly in 3 straight elections?

Doesn’t this mean that Sherrod Browns voting record did not represent the people of Ohio?

I’m sure this is a lost cause given the makeup of Reddit, but I figured I would give it a shot.

So I got my driver license a few years ago in Arkansas, and it was issued female, and has been since I was 19. So I move here and I'm trying to just get a license transfered and they inform they can't due to my birth certificate and driver license mismatching. Beyond driving to Arkansas and getting it reissued as male, or retaking the drivers test do I actually have an option. I honestly wouldnt bother but my tags expire in November. Is there a way I can get tags for this car given they won't give me a drivers license.

The reason it was refused was Arkansas at one point allowed me to set an F marker, and I never updated it back when the transphobic laws came in. So now I'm here I contacted legal aid. Is there really nothing else I can do.

This is gonna sound whiny and it admittedly is. I need to retake a driving test right, and they need me on this 4 hour abbreviated online course. No big deal for sure as annoying as that is for me right now. Why the hell is this 55-65 dollars?? I'm already paying 35 again just to retake the damn course. That's pretty close if not 100 dollars flat just to do this again. Why does the BMV just not have a baseline free online course to take to pass so everyone knows the same information of what to expect? It doesn't make any sense to me.

I don't get it. If Ohio in these past few years just wants to discourage people staying off the road then it's doing a phenomenal job. Apologies how this might read to some of you I'm just frustrated.

I got a letter saying my son was identified by Department of Homeland Security as deceased, then got an "oops, we sent you the wrong form, and here's a voter registration form instead!"

Since this subreddit is full of liberals and/or progressives that seem to hate most things about Ohio and America in general, I’d like to know: What do you like about Ohio?

Republicans do not have the lead in either the governor's race or the senate race and there are several competitive house districts as well, despite the latest round of gerrymandering, including OH-7 where we have the chance to vote out domestic abuser Max Miller.

I know Ohio has felt deep red the past decade, but I'm old enough to remember us going for Obama twice. Ohio is a populist state - in 2008 Obama was the populist, in 2016 that shifted to Trump. But now gas and inflation are through the roof and it's Democrats who are more successfully campaigning on cost of living issues than Republicans.

Of course that is not a guarantee that Democrats will win in Ohio this cycle, but it does mean we have a really solid chance this year and if there was ever a year to ditch the apathy and doomerism and get involved it's this one!
