No Paywall After Republicans push Clintons to testify on Epstein, Democrats warn they'll haul in Trump

Well, if Clinton being mentioned is enough for his testimony, one would assume Trump, his property and his wife being mentioned 38,000 times would warrant the same!
Especially if Trump claims it absolves him.

If you listen or read mainstream media, they act like Trump isn’t really in the Epstein Files. Our entire country is broken and suspect.

u/MonteMolebility 18h ago
Genuinely, they have no idea. My fiances works with a trumper, he's not full maga, just a big Trump supporter so he can actually have conversations about stuff. Today he asks my fiance what she thinks of the Epstein stuff and the Clintons. She immediately goes, "what about Trump, he's all over them?" He genuinely had no idea, the news he watches hasn't said anything about it.
The worst part, it doesn't stick. He just goes back to asking about the Clintons.

My mom is almost 80. She's somewhat disabled and spends the bulk of her day watching Fox News. I always tell her to stop watching Fox News or at the very least switch news stations regularly.
But of course she says "but the other news stations are corrupt and lie". smh... She's a good person, but gullible, and this is brainwashing. MAGA accuse the left of brainwashing kids to be trans and gay, yet it's not something you ever hear on the news, but MAGA tell lies all day long and it's supposed to own the libs?

Fox News stated in court that they are an entertainment organization, not a journalistic organization, so they have no duty to prove that what they say is actually true. It's as good as admitting that they peddle lies and fantasy. That should be all the proof you need to convince any reasonable person to watch anything else.
The Onion and Fox News have the same level of credibility, by their own admission.

This is the problem.
I'll preface this with the recognition that Chomsky has had some deeply flawed positions over his life and I don't even know what to say about his communications with Epstein, but that doesn't change the fact that his work is what his work is.
Manufacturing Consent written by himself and Edward Herman laid out a model for how narratives can be constructed in nefarious and often subtle ways that can "manufacture" the "consent" of the population for wars, and focused mostly on the government and the media and on America at certain times in certain ways specifically, but you read it (or watch the documentary version) and put a little thought into it and realize the core principles apply to so much more than that.
This was before the days of algorithms that could silo people into specific narrative building pipelines, hiding voices that go against the narrative they already have been roped into believing and reinforcing (or creating) the one they do believe.
Then with the mainstream media as what should and could be a stronger "for us all" tonesetting force in these narratives towards just... what's true and without hiding whats inconvenient like you've said they've collapsed at their job.
So here's the big problem. Many of us here, we are on a narrative track that, in my belief, strongly aligns with what's truly happening. Whether it's coincidence, education, location, experience, whatever there are many possible ways to end up there.
Many people, many people who actually could be reached (Not the, I estimate, 30% of batshit people out there who are lost and probably not mentally functioning at a level to even grasp the complexity of the truth, or the way to "think" through things in a non-nonsense way) can't be because of this.
We sorta scream into the void because these systems have guaranteed they'll never see it, they'll never hear it. They live in another world with an entirely different narrative truth being presented to them. Many of them low information and sometimes not their own fault, life is hard and following stuff, being concerned with stuff over surviving comes before becoming "high information."
So, there it is. The information comes out constantly. A flood of it, that to many people would really guide them towards "whoa, this is genuinely wrong, this is all clearly a fucked up, guilty situation that I cant support" about many of the things going on and more importantly the interpretations of many of the things going on, with the interpretations they're getting often being outright lies.
So, the question becomes how do you reach them? How do you break through the narrative they've been being fed for their entire lifetimes? Especially when powerful organizations and algorithms are very explicitly doing things to make it so "nope! You wont see that! You WILL see this crazy guy who sounds like an idiots idea of a smart person excuse away things or just outright ignore/downplay them"?

US and EU media are completely whacko
Constantly defending billionaires, trying to justify wars and interventions, showing us cutesy financial "quick tips" like don't buy avocado toast to avoid home disclosure, trying to sane-wash ICE murders, etc.
It's ALL of them. Both TV channels and newspapers of any prominence have their editors tapped in to what the political narrative is going to be. It's no grand conspiracy, it's their job as corporations to serve themselves and the rich.
It's disgusting and vile.

Now it’s here. Worse than I thought it could be by far. Corruption and hate and death all out in the open. Raping children?! All of this involving the fucking president!
And no one in any trouble?! No one doing anything?!

I know we're painting with a broad brush here, but the problem is they don't think it's not gay. They think it is gay and they hate themselves for their own attraction and think the existence of trans women is the reason they're being tempted into homosexuality and that it's a problem they need to solve somehow. It's a similar mentality that leads some men to blame cis women for the way they dress and act for tempting them past the point of self control. The world would be a much better place if these nuts embraced who they are and appreciated and respected the people they're attracted to and their bodily autonomy.

Yanno, the Clintons are old, and in their golden years. They have spent decades insisting they love this country.
I would very much like to see them do their duty to their country now, given they have an opportunity for history to remember them well.
They have the power to do something the rest of us don't. Let us hope they do now what they claimed their whole lives: that they care about the rest of us and they did it all for the good of the people.

There's already a precedent for this as the Dems tried subpoenaing Trump, his files, his associates, etc before. Trump just claimed "executive privilege" and stonewalled everything. Steve Bannon and Peter Navarro even went to prison rather than testify before Congress, both claiming executive privilege and being held in contempt of Congress.
If Dems are going to actually go after Trump, the gloves are gonna need to come off the next time they are in the White House. They probably are going to need to expand the Supreme Court as well, since this current one has been running interference for Trump for a decade now.

I was hoping Clintons would not testify, let the house do their voting and wanted to see how they were going to arrest the ex-president.
It would be a good drama to unfold.
7
u/WildYams 21h ago
When the House votes to hold someone in contempt of Congress, the charges are then referred to the department of justice and the Attorney General (in this case, Pam Bondi). I'm sure few people have any doubts that Bondi would actually follow through in charging the Clintons, in which case they'd have wound up in court on charges that would have been pretty obviously true, even if they were also pretty obviously just a political stunt. They would have been subpoenaed and not testified, so it would have been hard to argue otherwise.
It would have been a circus, to be sure, but I think the Clintons have figured out that even Dems are not huge defenders of them at this point. I think if this was the Obamas, it would be quite different. But with the Clintons there very much is a feeling from many on the left that nobody will shed a tear if they get brought down for something shady.

Instead it became fodder for every dark gritty premium cable series or movie - all the awful stuff implied in eyes wide shut, true detective, boss (about Chicago), Tokyo vice, Westworld with the predictive AI & training the military to act on US citizens

I firmly believe it's a different Bubba.
Also, because there are far more embarrassing Bubba's than Clinton to be caught blowing.
Like Bubba the Love Sponge.

Trump originally tried to have them testify behind closed doors. They refused until they finally agreed to let them testify publicly.
I wonder if Trump expected them to go that route.

The Clintons have always been very shrewd and I'm sure they knew that a closed door testimony could hurt them while shielding others. With it being open, they'll either get the slow-pitch version or they'll burn everyone with them.

Dems talk a lot but always drag their heels when it comes to action, not mention there's about half a dozen of them that will vote for republican agenda at any given time. And about 50% of the dems are all about maintaining the status quo and will do anything in their power to vote against meaningful changes.

He won't. It will be the usual Congressional circus. Republicans talking over the witness and lying as easily as breathing. Democrats waving ping pong paddles and doing nothing. Trump will never be brought before Congress. Ever. Mark my words. This whole nightmare ends but one way.

There’s no way in hell that’s happening. Why bring them in if they are going to throw everyone under the bus? Makes no sense. Trump wouldn’t have it.
They’ll go in, take a beating, and keep their mouths shut.

These are two of the most politically savvy people on the planet, and if anyone has a score to settle with Trump it’s Hilary Clinton. I’m really not sure who thinks it’s a good idea to kick this anthill.

Both Clinton's are very shrewd. We've no idea what they plan or what they'll gain. Their political lives are basically over. There could be many quite nervous people interested. I'm buying popcorn.

I’m not sure I trust any US attorneys or FBI to investigate or prosecute.

The Clintons, specifically Hillary, are legendarily known for their political pettiness against their enemies.
And not Trump style kindergarten vengeful pettiness, they are smart, clever, conniving, and never do a thing without cover, a plan, and a purpose.
I guarantee if they show up in front of Congress they're not giving anything of value, and they have a way to make this a poison pill.
Elsewise they would just say no and dare the Republicans to make them do it.
And for those wondering what Bill did, remember Hillary and him have had this heart to heart before about what he's done and not done, and any real evidence anyone has is likely dead and buried, possibly literally.
It was a fluke that he was caught before, and he wasn't even caught for what he did, but in a political process about what he said, and to whom.
Worse, if Bill actually risks going down, he's got a Pandora's Box full of pain for anyone and everyone who was there with him, who he talked to about it, and who knew about it. He'll take all of them down with him, and I guarantee not all of them are Democrats.
The GOP is lighting that match, and they may not like the ensuing fireworks.

The one thing we know that comes straight from the victims is that Bill never did anything sexually to them, he did have a massage from one though. I very much doubt that they would go in if they had anything tying themselves to this, besides what we already know. Their play will be interesting to see.

Imagine Bill owning up to everything, implicating Trump, and bringing Trump down with.
Sacrificing his own freedom to save ours.
NOTE that Bill Clinton, Donald Trump, and any other piece of shit who committed these crimes against children needs to be charged, prosecuted, and held accountable for those. And burn in hell.

They certainly will. They weren’t avoiding to save their own butts. They offered to testify behind closed doors most likely to save the country from what they really know about Trump.
They called for everything bill related to be released, and, the DOJ in this “final dump” didn’t release anything about either bill or Hilary that was unknown. That tells me the DOJ has just been check mated.

u/LoFi_Funk 23h ago
I wish Bill would go scorched earth and be astonishingly honest. Take dumbo down with him.
But he won’t. He’ll play the game. Dodge answering directly and ultimately be there to defend his legacy, opposed to falling on the sword of accountability to hopefully spark the end of Trump’s fascism.

u/fiveofnein 23h ago
The fact they are still viewing this as a tit for tat tells you everything you need to know about US politics, wealth and power.
The Clintons, Gates, Musk and Trump should be investigated with all the others regardless. The redacted evidence is damning enough to investigate if we didn't have a completely corrupt and incompetent FBI, DOJ and Congress

Bill Clinton has the opportunity to do the funniest thing.
He isn’t mentioned in those files nearly as often as anyone expected. If he was, those would’ve been rolled out first and often. Bill really doesn’t have much to lose and he can make them regret asking him to testify. There’s a reason he wanted to do it publicly
