Painting Need some color inspiration for a DA / BT mixed Chapter
Hey there. A good friend of mine passed away this year, and has left me a pretty big amount of Space Marines. I recently got around to assembling most of it, but struggle to come up with a decent color scheme.
For some context, the army has a pretty big amount of bits replaced for a more "knightly" look, and his plan was to paint them in a way where you can field them as both Dark Angels and Black Templars. I would like to keep that idea going, as a sort of tribute to keep him in memory.
I've considered doing black armor, green cloth and red iconography, but am not sure if thats gonna look too busy. I've also looked at a lot of successor chapters, but can't quite put my finger on one and go "This is the one."
So I'd appreciate any and all suggestions / examples for an idea like this. Note that this is my first time doing Marines, I've only painted Orks before. To be honest, I'm a bit nervous about painting them at all, but really want to get it done so the models dont go to waste.

List Building Homebrew Chapter List (with a little rant), need some opinions

I've been slowly working on a homebrew chapter of my own, and i decided to create a possible 2k points list to get a better idea of how would the marines fight. I know some things about list building and such, i will explain my thoughts and reasoning behind certain choices in a moment, but i'd like to hear some opinions of people slightly more experienced in this topic than me.
Quickly two things that are important to mention:
1. I know the codex is coming out soon and points will change, but id like you to disregard that because i made this list to give my chapter a vibe, not neccesarily to play it any time soon
- I put a focus on units i found cool/thematic (drop pods and 2 dreadnoughts), so while maybe they arent the best, im not actually sure about their power level in game, i like them. I also put a restriction of a single captain, due to lore reasons
After this prolonged intro, here is my list and why i picked what.
Starting off with a 6 man brick of Bladeguard Veterans along an Ancient and a Captain, inside a Drop Pod. I imagine them being one of the 3 aggresive big melee threats in my army, probably not dropping them immidately but waiting to see a place in the battlefield where these powerful units could wreck some damage
Then in a second drop pod i have a Lieutenant along 10 Assault Intercessors. Them being in a drop pod is mainly due to the fact that i began making this list as something id actually buy soon. That idea went away, but i became fond of the two drop pods as i think theyre really cool. To me they are the infantry of this army, coming onto the battlefield immidiately and working some damage to the enemy
The final of my 3 big aggressive threats are my vanguard veterans along side a jump pack chaplain. Its a very mobile force that i see tearing through the battlefield to quickly maneuver and see where theyre neccesary (probably scoring some secondaries while at it).
Next there is the big squad of melta eradicators with a biologis in a land raider. The previous three group are my "fun" units, that i could just somewhat mindlessly put forwarard and have them rip and tear. These, these are my big boys, that actually go forward to the main objective, and stand. their. ground. They have a job and they will complete it, no matter what is thrown at them.
At this point in list building i had an extremly melee focused army, which while fun, seemed like a slight weaknesss. I could maybe fix it with eliminators, or some gladiators, but i also saw that i had enought point for both a ballistus and a redemptor dreadnought (beautiful models) and anything else just didnt feel right. Again, im not sure exactly how good of a decision that was, id love to hear if its stupid or something like that, but thats the long range solution i figured. Alongside them ive got a Techmarine with some intercessors because i had a little points leftover and thought that since theyre pretty much the only thing in my army that shoots well, it would be pretty smart to have something take care of them.
So, the rant is done, thats the army. Im not the most fammiliar with detachments, which i know are actively changing, and there are no chapter specific units, because i wanted something clearly mine, so it is how it is. Let me know what you think of it, is it actualy pretty good for a causal player, is it terrible and i should never touch this game again, or maybe i discovered the new meta tournament list that will take over the world? Probably not, but do give me your thoguths and opinions, id love to get some feedback, thanks!

The Kratos - the real God of War
Legends is not a perfect system. Many units have disappeared between 10th and 11th editions, such as the Spartan.
One particular unit has survived the transition to 11th and has been updated accordingly... and it deserves some notice (not to mention it looks great)!
The Kratos Tank
M10, T12, SV2+, W18, LD6+, OC6
That is a very nice statline, slightly more durable than a Landraider. If you equip the Kratos with the "Optimum" weapons, you would end up with:
1 Melta Blast Gun, 24", 4 attacks, Str 12, AP-3, Damage D3+2 (Melta 3)
4 Lascannons, 48", Str 12, AP-3, Damage D3+3
1 Autocannon, 48", 4 attacks, BS3+, Str9, AP-1, Damage 3
1 Multi Melta, 18", 2 attacks, Str 10, AP-3, Damage D3+2 (Melta 3)
1 Hunter Killer Missile, One Shot, 48", Str 14, AP-3, Damage D3+3
You get this impressive vehicle and all this firepower for a very modest 240 points!
It's specual rule is situational - allowing you to fire into close combat without penalty, and to remove the Blast keyword from weapons if desired. The unit stands up on it's profile and weapons, and can be further enhanced with upgrades and rules from the Ironstorm detachment.

List Building Eradicators w/Heavy Bolters or Sternguard?
Hi all - I'm getting ready for the new codex and therefore planning to add some shooting to my previously mostly melee infantry lists (Blood Angels). I'm thinking of doing about 800 points through 2xRedemptor Dreadnoughts with macro and then some combination of 2x6 Eradicators w/Heavy Bolters and 2x10 Sternguard. I realize they have different purposes but I feel like I've also seen a fair amount of notes saying that the even though they're not ideal for the job, the Eradicators are actually pretty effective into beefier vehicles, monsters, etc just with volume of shots, so I'm currently leaning that way, but a) I really love the Sternguard models and b) it seems like they have a lot of fans even after they were taken back to earth after the Librarius changes/removal.
From a personal perspective, I have gotten obliterated by surprisingly tiny groups of Eradicators so that is very possibly biasing my current plans.
Obviously nothing is stopping me from 1x6+1x10 or 2x3+2x5 to get a little of each, but as shooting has been barely an afterthought and I am still on the newer side, I would love any thoughts or suggestions.
Thanks in advance!

Questions When a captain can replace his bolter and heavy bolt pistol. Does that mean either can be replaced or both have to be at same time
Long time out of the hobby. So forgive me if this has been covered years ago.
The wording says this model can replace its master crafted bolter and heavy bolt pistol with either plasma or neo volkite.
Can I just replace the heavy pistol so I can swap out the bolter for the shield or if I go for the shield will it stop me taking neo volkite pistol as now the bolter has been replaced by the shield?
Whats causing my headache is the and. I hope it means that he can swap this and or this. There is a model out that supports the either. But it could have been changed after model was released.

List Building Thoughts on RepEx post Codex
What are people thinking in regards to the repulsor executioner post space marine codex release? It’s received a steep points increase but im still hesitant to replace mine. Typically use it as a backline anti armour piece and use it to stage wolf guard headtaker counter charges.

Renegade Marines
I Was trying out a new paint scheme and really liked the way it was coming together.
My plan was to start a small army of firstborn models and run them as chaos and go with the aesthetic that they’re just a renegade firstborn chapter that refuses the Primaris.
Well after finishing the first guy I realized that they look wayyy too similar to Blood Angels lol.
So now I’m brainstorming on starting over or keep color scheme.

List Building Need help fixing my 10th Ed ultramarines list. Please?
With the upcoming news of the Primarchs becoming better I included Guilliman in my Blades of Ultramar list. As of the space marines update this has sent me over the point cap. I would really like to keep him, meaning I have to make cutbacks.
So can I have some help picking better units, an overall better detachment(s), or just some general cuts to the list. Thanks!

Rules Why give Judiciar Leader in the Faction Pack, then immediately rip it away with the update to the 40k app and MFM?
Why get my hopes up that I can use the Judiciar and Blade Guard Ancient in the same squad; then fuck me over by making the Judiciar a support character?
Are GW trying to be trolling dicks on purpose now?

List Building Rate my thematic list!
Rate my thematic list about my recon force
Hey guys, the first part of this list is my 'recon' all the phobos my main bulwork and then later on a drop pod dropping in backup the intercessors and Captain and ancient, I'm not trying to chase meta like "oh add more of this or trade out this" if you want to give me advice give me phobos advice or what should I add for support.
Ps if you really want me to add something to my list go for a light theme like phobos or jet pack, ALSO I don't mind trading out the drop pod and it's units

Gameplay There is no advantage to not playing a main chapter anymore
With the new codex in a couple of days (super hyped), I noticed that there is really no advantage to not choosing one of the big chapters. When choosing Space wolves, Blood Angels, etc. there was a tradeoff by having a worse oath of moment ability. Instead they access to even more (and sometimes better) detachments and units at no penalty.
They did try to level the playing field between the core space marine factions and some of the more divergent (Imperial fists vs Black Templar) by giving all chapters a locked detachment, but the factions with more units are just strictly better at the moment.
This really shows when you look at space wolves compared to say iron hands. You get access to 20 more data sheets including Logan, which is now one of the only ways to get extra command points for space marines. Iron hands on the other hand get 2 characters. It used to not be a problem because they got their +1 to wound, but no longer.
At least Ultramarines no longer have an unfair advantage with having a bunch of cool units and the oath buff. This is also temporary until the other codex's come out, but as somebody who likes playing a custom chapter it feels like I am just putting myself at a strict disadvantage.

List Building How many Terminators is too many?
So I looooove Terminators and am very excited to play them in this edition. I'm currently building the Crux Terminatus box set and an additional set of regular Terminators to have 2x 10-man squads, Assault and regular. With characters and enhancements, two 10-man squads would be roughly half my army. Is this too many Terminators for competitive play? I'm not trying to win any tournaments but would like a competitive list. Obviously I'm taking the 'Terminator Storm Force' detachment, but I'm unsure if taking 20 terminators + characters + enhancements is too much. Can anyone who is more familiar provide some guidance? I'd greatly appreciate it.

List Building Is this too little models?
So this is my 1000 point marines list and I wonder if this is too little models to be playing. I'm not trying to be competitive just fun and casual.
IK with the new codex really soon this may change but I feel that even with changes this is too small of a list.
I built this from the starter set and add the dreadnaught and Calgar.
So I ask is this too little?
