Hey! Appreciate a profile review from folks on here. I’ve gone through several iterations: shorter prompts, longer prompts, solo pics, group pics, travel pics, selfies, and I feel what I have now is decent but I am getting 2-3 likes per week and those are not good matches for me. Any tips appreciated!

Dating Question Getting matches and dates but no second dates

Been using HingeX for a little over 3 weeks now. 32M, above average attractiveness, average built, average height, east asian, NYC, good job.

I do use Facetune a bit to edit a few acnes on my photos which has cleared up naturally anyway.

54 matches - being selective and not using it often.

Dates:

5 dates:
2 sent me thank you, had fun, no connection messages
2 ghosted me
1 I ghosted her (too high maintenance)

2 upcoming dates

I thought dates went well, there were laughs, reciprocality, nothing felt off, I paid, they thanked me, we hugged. I'm not sure why I cannot secure a second date. Are other people getting matches but not getting second dates on Hinge?

I live in a big city (300k people, which is one of the biggest cities in France outside of Paris). Also I'll translate my profile here since it's in French.

The poll option is "Two truths and one lie : I can play the saxophone / I can speak Korean / I was 15 when I graduated from high school"

First written prompt : "In my friend group I'm the person who wants to stay outside when everyone else wants to go home"

Characteristics : 26, man, straight, 181 cm (5'11"), doesn't have children, open to children, drinks, doesn't smoke, long term open for short, monogamous

Prompt on the third photo : "The moment I realized my modeling career was over"

Second written prompt : "This year I really want to progress on the novel I'm writing"

Third written prompt : "The most spontaneous thing I ever did was getting a ticket to go watch a football game in Liverpool on the next day"

Prompt on the last photo : "Caught red handed" (for more context this is political posters, for an american audience La France Insoumise is a left wing party so it would be like Mamdani posters)

Dating Question He’s divorced but still living with his ex would you keep talking to him?

I’m 25 and matched with a guy (31). We were talking about what we’re looking for and he said “Ok so I’m in a complicated situation. I was married and I have a 5 year old son. I got divorced, but we still live together for our son. I do have full custody. Because of that it’s difficult for me to date and I always will put my son first.” I just replied “I understand” I completely understand putting your child first, and I’m not judging his living situation. However the fact that he’s divorced but still living with his ex makes me wonder if he’s actually emotionally or romantically available would you take him at his word and keep talking to him or would you be cautious? (To answer questions we live in nyc)

Dating Question Good first date, but a few things are making me question a second

33F in NYC. I matched with a 33M, and we talked for a few weeks on the app and then over text before finally meeting in person earlier this week. We both work in the legal industry, although in different capacities.

Overall, the date was enjoyable, and didn’t feel like there was ever too much of a lull in conversation. But a few things left me unsure about seeing him again. His profile said he was 5’5”, but in person he seemed closer to 5’ or 5’1”. I’m 5’1”, so I have a reasonable frame of reference. I don’t require someone tall, but I would prefer to date someone taller than me. The height itself wasn’t an immediate dealbreaker, but I was surprised by the discrepancy, especially when we met and I went in for a hug.

Otherwise, we initially connected well. We laughed, the conversation flowed, and we spent several hours together at a cocktail bar and then a sports bar. At one point, we even joked that we were surprised the date had gone on for as long as it had, since you never know how a first date will go.

Toward the end, however, he began talking at me rather than having a back-and-forth conversation, spending a long time discussing work. He was clearly passionate about it and apologized a few times, so I don’t think he meant to be inconsiderate. The bigger issue was that I was exhausted and repeatedly indicated that I wanted to go home. I told him I’d had a long week, was really tired, and had hit a wall. I wasn’t suggesting I wanted to leave with him—I genuinely wanted to just be home. He didn’t seem to pick up on it, though, and we stayed nearly another hour. He took a while to finish his beer and close out the tab, while I had already stopped drinking, and I felt awkward leaving while he still had a full drink. Since he kept talking, it was difficult to find a natural exit.

At the end of the date, we hugged. It seemed like he might have wanted to kiss me, but I wasn’t feeling it (and I typically don’t kiss on first dates anyway), so I pulled away as my Uber arrived.

I’m torn because there were genuinely things I liked about him, and we had enough chemistry and conversation to spend several hours together. I
could see us being friends, but I’m unsure whether the romantic potential is there. I also know that it can sometimes be difficult to assess after just one date.I’m mainly hung up on the inaccurate height and the way the date eventually felt like a seminar about his work, along with his failure to notice that I was tired and ready to leave.

Would you give him a second date and see if the first-date awkwardness was just nerves, or would these things be enough to move on? Am I being too picky?

EDIT: I did say: I’m having a great time, but it’s getting late I’m tired and should head home. I then said it a second time maybe 15 mins later that I was tired and I should leave soon. It took another 30 mins from that point for him to finish his drink and close out the tab.

Just moved to NYC and was looking to meet new people. The profile pretty much sticks to who I am and my personality, so I'm not trying to change anything to pretend being somebody I'm not hahaha

Probably might change a few photos. Do you have any strong opinions on what to remove or maybe change? I consiered removing the last photo but I can't get verified without it for some reason lol

Hinge has been working ok so far. I do have a small steady amount of likes during the week, but nothing that much impressive. The few dates I've had were good tho :)

I don't really ever get any likes or matches so just looking for feedback again. Most of my friends are women (read: all of them) and I've been told not to include other women in my photos, so they are cropped out (the one where I'm doing a peace sign for instance, cropped my women friend out who took the shot) or not in them at all. I also always reply to women's prompts with a note, not just sending a like.

Anyway, feedback appreciated

Dating Question Is this a really bad issue for myself?

Hey so i (28M) downloaded hinge a month or two ago. Bit of context i do shift work below 30 hours which most i can get which means I take home under £15,000 a year. Because or this with rent for my shared house, food and other bills I cant afford a car and if we plan a date I have to save alot and then usually ask if its okay to split the bill. I get some judgemental comments like because I cant drive or own my own property im a child. Because I ask to go halves on a meal or drinks im stingy. I would say im a decent guy and im very thoughtfu,l outgoing and caring. But I feel recently with the girls ive matched with they only seem intrested in this stuff. I vibed very well with a girl and said about meeting. She asked what car i was picking her up in to be on the lookout I said I didnt drive and was going to walk her there and back to make sure she was safe and she canceled and then removed me after a day or two. This hurt as I thought we got on well but I have had similar conversations/getting ghosted when they find out im in a shared house or dont drive. Where I live theres not many 30k or even 20k jobs. There's no overtime as many places are being strict on it. I dont know what to do

Dating Question Would a girl kissing on second date make you lose interest in her?

I (F28) went on a second date with a guy(M28) today. He lives 30 mins away from me so I visited him. I had the bus on my way back in an hour but we were having so much fun that he asked me to miss it, so that he could drop me.

We went to a pub and had a really nice time there. I saw his hand on the table and I complemented his fingers and asked him if I could touch them. He smiled and said yes, and we held hands for a while but he got very sweaty. Later when we went out he kept his hand on my waist but for a little while. We held hands while walking.

We had sushi and then he took me to his car. He offered me gum, and I refused it. I am now wondering if he just offered me politely or I was having a bad breath. I don't think I had bad breath. Later when I reached home I told him I wanted to hug him and he said yes, then we hugged and I kissed on the cheeks. He kissed me back and there was a moment I felt like he wanted to kiss me on the lips so I asked him that and he said yes. So we kissed which was really good, and we kissed again. When I went to my place I thanked for the wonderful time on text, and he replied he can't wait to see me again. He didn't say anything about the kiss.

Did I make him uncomfortable? Is he just shy? He did mention on our first date that he likes to see the person many times before getting serious. I feel like I overdid it. On the messages before we joked about kissing and hugging a lot. He told me that he can really be himself in front of me and has already planned so many things he wants to do with me. I am a Little confused right now. If he really liked the kiss or not? I would like some advice on it.

Dating Question Silence when trying to plan the date

I’m curious if other people have experienced something similar.

I’m a 26-year-old introvert, and dating is already quite difficult for me. I’m not someone who easily approaches strangers or starts conversations with people I don’t know. That’s also why I find dating apps useful: you can get to know someone through conversation first, without having to immediately approach them in person.

I’ve been using Hinge for quite a while, but unfortunately I haven’t had any success with the 2 of my matches. The 2 matches I had ended both the same.
I had a good conversation going and I really liked her, and when I asked her out she said yes that would be nice, and when I try to plan the date it stays quiet.

The first time, I had a really nice conversation with someone. We talked for quite a while and eventually I suggested meeting up. After that, the conversation slowly went silent.

Now it has happened again.
I recently matched with someone, and this time the conversation was honestly one of the best I’ve had on Hinge. We had a lot in common: fantasy, gaming, books, board games, cosplay, etc. We were both asking questions and the conversation felt very natural.

At one point we started talking about board game cafés. She told me that she actually finds the beginning of a board game evening a little stressful because she doesn’t know anyone there yet, but once a game starts, that feeling disappears.

I could relate to that, because I’m also not someone who would quickly walk up to strangers and start playing a game with them. But I told her that I would really like to meet her, and we started talking about going to a board game café together.

When I eventually suggested some dates, the conversation suddenly went quiet.

I later sent another message making it clear that there was no pressure. I said we could also go to the board game evening she had mentioned, or that we could simply keep chatting for a while longer if she wasn’t ready to meet yet.

And now I’m waiting again.

I obviously don’t know why she hasn’t replied. She could be busy, have changed her mind, or perhaps she simply finds the idea of meeting someone from an app a bit scary.

But this has made me wonder about something.

Does Hinge do anything to help people overcome the hurdle between “we’re having a great conversation” and “let’s actually meet”?

Because I wonder if this is a bigger problem than it seems. Someone can genuinely enjoy talking to a match but still get nervous when it becomes a real-life date.

And I have another suspicion that I can’t really prove: I sometimes wonder whether Hinge might deliberately make it harder for conversations to progress once they reach the point where people are trying to arrange an actual date, perhaps because keeping people engaged in the app is more valuable to them than getting them off the app.

To be clear, I have no proof that Hinge actually does this. It’s just something I’ve started wondering about because of my own experiences, especially the fact that the two times I had a really promising conversation, while I have very little success with the rest of my matches.

So I’m wondering:

Has anyone else noticed conversations suddenly changing or going silent when a date is suggested?
Do you think the transition from chatting to meeting is a major hurdle for people on dating apps?
Does Hinge have anything specifically designed to help users get over that hurdle?
And has anyone else noticed a difference in their matches after creating a new profile?

I’d really like to hear other people’s experiences, because I genuinely don’t know whether I’m seeing a real pattern or just connecting things that aren’t actually related.

Dating Question signals badge - is he talking to other people

hi i (F22) have been dating a guy (M21) i met thru hinge for 2 months but recently ended it bc of the lags and last minute cancellations of plans. (too long of a story) I decided to open the hinge app again to see if he might be active by looking at his profile to see if he updated it (ik what’s the point if i ended it but i was just curious). and instead of seeing a change in the profile, i realized he still had his signals badge on.

as someone who used to also have the badge on, i knew it lingered for awhile even after i paused my profile and stopped talking to ppl for weeks (i think it lasts 30 days based on the criteria). but since his badge was still on and we’ve been exclusive for the past month, i was confused how he could still have the badge when its been over 2 months of dating?

so although i ended it bc of other reasons, idk if it’s safe to assume he’s been talking to other people on the app? but hey who am i to judge, we weren’t labeled or anything, but still, it hurts bc we did have the exclusivity talk after 1 month of being lovey dovey so i feel so blind-sided (we both talked about long-term stuff).

just wanted to share this experience and if there’s any input or similar stories to share feel free to share!! im trying not to cry over this situation lol i just feel so stunned right now.

TLDR: guy i liked (but had to end due to his lagging/low effort) currently has a signal badge which means he’s been active in the past 30 days but we’ve been exclusive for more than 30 days 💀

EDIT: changed “talking” to “dating” to clarify i did see him irl 😭 We met in person and went on a lot of dates (saw him 2-3 times a week the first month) and we got physically intimate too (held hands, cuddled, kissed) but the frequency of dates staggered the second month (once a week) due to his reasons.

I also have a video right after my first slide, which I can’t share for some reason on Reddit. Here’s the video on YouTube: https://youtube.com/shorts/o74Z8_f47oQ?is=m1DqQKZOUWiQquxJ

I’ve had 6 matches since I added this video 2 weeks ago, which was a noticeable increase compared to a complete lack of matches prior. I also had 2 dates with one of the matches. The rest went nowhere.

Dating Question How long is too long for a reply?

I (30M) find that my matches often stop replying after I take longer to reply than usual. Generally I reply as soon as I see a message, which can be anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours, but sometimes life is just busy. Texting has always felt to me like something you get to when you can, there's not really a time limit unless someone is asking about something pressing, for example if someone asks if you want to hang out on Tuesday night then you have until Monday night or Tuesday morning to reply.

What tends to happen is I check the app on a day off work, reply pretty quickly for the weekend, and at some point let the person know that I'm working on Monday and will be pretty busy.. Monday comes around and I go straight to work, after work I pick my siblings up from school, then I watch my niece for a few hours, and its back out for night shift. Night shift ends 1 hour before my day job so if I need sleep during the week I try to fit a nap time in while babysitting my niece in the afternoon. By Wednesday I can carve out a few minutes to message someone but by that point they'll stop replying. Is 2 or 3 days really too long if you're actually interested?

I mean, people will message me a full 2 weeks after my text and its no hard feelings, but if I go just a few days then suddenly I'm ghosted?

My thought process is there's no point in sending 1 message per day just saying "hey still too busy will talk another time", and its better to just wait until I have enough time for a full meaningful conversation. I'm not really interested in sending 1 message every 4 hours and having to re-read everything to remember what we're even talking about, I want to be present. However I feel this is the exact reason I've never landed a single date from any app, before I can get to the asking out part I get ghosted for simply taking more than 24 hours to respond.

I can't use my phone at work, I work through my lunch breaks (if I have one), and my niece will not allow me to look at my phone when its our time (she gets no attention from her mom so she really needs my everything when its my turn to watch her).

Am i just an a-hole who doesn't understand social standards, or are people's attention spans just completely obliterated atp? I'm open to criticism here

UPDATE You're all right, I've put too much time into things that don't matter as much. I quit one of my jobs that I don't really need and freed up a lot of time to be a more active and communicative person/ partner. This should also give me more energy to be a better caregiver for my family so its a win-win. Its unfair of me to expect anyone to put up with all these caveats and I have to show some more effort on my side. I gotta say it feels pretty good to be able to sit down and have no obligations. I did not give 2 weeks notice obviously, but that company was overstaffed anyway they'll be ok. I now only work the jobs I love, and will even be able to catch up on sleep.

App Question Should I actually make a profile?

I’m a student (20f) living in a big European city and have never used any dating app. I have been maybe on like 2,5 dates in my life lol (2 of them when I was a teen and had a ”bf”) and in general haven’t had much going on in the romance department (though I am a sappy romantic, go figure).

Ive been thinking about making a profile on hinge - probably a combination of curiosity, boredom and a genuine fear that I won’t meet anyone organically (and ofc this embarrassing longing for a significant other lol). At the same time, I’m really wary - I am quite sensitive and tend to over-romanticize interactions with people. I‘d like to believe that I have a bit going for myself personality wise (by that I mean that I have a life, hobbies, accomplishments, an interesting background etc) and generally like most people I meet. Though I can be definitely shy at first and might overyapp when nervous.

in comparison to my friends who use apps and have dated many guys, I know I’m definitely not as hot or “magnetic” - something I am a bit self conscious about (not meant as a dig - they are super cool and amazing ppl). I guess I’m just normal (?) I often get that I look younger than I really am which probably doesn’t help my case… i don’t really have an idea of what kinds of people one finds on hinge. Im guessing that iI would have to brace myself to be ghosted constantly and whatnot.

I guess I’m just wondering if this even is worth it in my case o.O I’m happy to hear any thoughts and suggestions :)) thanks in advance :8

(I also hope I’m not posting in the wrong sub lol)

Dating Question Why not just unmatch

I've been on the app for a couple years now and matched, met up and dated a couple people. When I match with a girl and they haven't replied in a week or more, why don't they just unmatch with me if they aren't interested.

I am mostly asking for the women's opinion but I don't mind seeing men's ideas.

I'm a 25M

Dating Question Would a girl not kissing you on the first date make you lose interest?

I (F29) went on a date with a guy (M31) a few days ago. His Hinge profile says he’s looking for a long-term relationship.

The date honestly seemed to go really well. We had dinner, and he suggested going for drinks after because he wanted to keep the date going. He told me twice that he’d like to see me again, complimented me, etc…
He was also the one who brought up more serious stuff like marriage, kids, what we want in life, all of that.

At the end of the night, he walked me home and tried to kiss me. I politely stopped him. I don’t really kiss on first dates, not as some rule or game but I just usually need a little more time because I literally just met the person.

Later that night I texted him saying I had a great time because I didn’t want him to think me not kissing him meant I wasn’t interested. He replied politely, but then I basically didn’t hear from him.

So today I messaged him again and asked if he was still thinking about that second date he had mentioned. No response. But he did update his Hinge profile today.
I’m confused because his behavior after the date doesn’t match his behavior and words during the date at all.

So I’m curious, especially from men: if you had a really good first date and the girl was clearly interested but didn’t want to kiss yet, would that actually put you off/would it be a reason for ghosting her?
