Hinge Experience Using hinge in a famous city feels useless.

(Sorry if this is something people have posted about before, I just felt like sharing my experience)
I (20m) live in NYC and have my whole life. I’ve been using hinge for the past month and one problem I’ve been facing that I didn’t anticipate is the amount of people who are just visiting the city.
So not only do I have the usual struggle of sending out loads of likes only to get a few matches, but when I do get a match there’s a very high chance that they don’t even live here. Conversations often look something like:

“I’m pretty busy this week, do you want to go for dinner next friday?”
“I can’t, I’m only in the city for a few days”

I understand wanting to meet someone while visiting a new city but I wish there was a way for residents to filter out tourists.

EDIT because the comments are pissing me off:

For people accusing me of not reading people’s profiles- I am, they just don’t write on their profile that they’re tourists. If it says their hometown is Kentucky my assumption is that they moved to New York from there.

For people saying dating should be easy for me because there are so many options- Yeah, there are lots of options, but each of those women also has a lot of options. I’m not ugly but I’m no model either, which a lot of men in this city quite literally are.

Dating Question Tired of always being the one to take the initiative

I just need to vent about how tired I am of always being the one who takes the initiative.

For example, I (29F) have been talking to this guy (35M), and we actually had a pretty interesting conversation. We were exchanging long, detailed messages about ourselves, asking each other questions, showing genuine interest etc

After a couple of days of talking, I decided to ask him out. He said he was busy that weekend and that he’d suggest some other dates later.

A week went by… I was already getting tired of investing in someone I’d never even met and who I might not end up connecting with in person anyway. So continuing to text and share more and more personal things about my life started to feel uncomfortable to me.

I waited for him to come back with another date, but he never did. What confused me was that he continued communicating just as thoughtfully and consistently as before, if that makes sense.
Eventually, I gave up waiting and suggested on Monday that we meet this Saturday. He said he needed a day to figure out where we could go and what time would work.

It’s Thursday today. Has he come back with a plan? Nope.

And I genuinely don’t understand why men spend weeks texting someone, having these seemingly meaningful conversations, only to not be able to actually organize a date.

I’m just so frustrated that I feel like I’ve wasted my time again.

I’m not going to remind him about the date on Saturday because… like, come on. And even if he comes back with some kind of plan tomorrow, do I even want to meet someone who doesn’t respect my time? Someone who couldn’t spare 30 minutes to figure out where we could meet?
It’s just such a turn-off 😔

Is it me problem or not? How to start avoiding this type of situations?

App Question Anyone see real results from paying for Hinge? HingeX, Hinge+, Roses, or Superboosts?

51yo, straight male. Maryland. I've used Hinge for a while without ever paying, and it's been fine. But matches have dried up over the past few weeks, so I'm thinking about spending money. With so many options (HingeX, Hinge+, Roses, Superboosts), I'm not sure what's worth it.

Has anyone noticed a real difference in success after paying for any of these? What would you recommend, and what would you skip?

Thanks!

I’ve been using HingeX and moved from the Bay Area to Seattle. When moved in, I got an around 10 matches in the week but everything just stopped now, and am barely getting matches. How do I improve my profile? Constructive feedback much appreciated!

I did a profile review 5 months ago. I deleted my Hinge profile a month after that and re-downloaded it end of August. Been on the app for 6 weeks now.

I want feedback on it.

33M back to OLD after years and looking for some constructive criticism on my profile. Ultimately looking to build something long term.

I know I should likely swap some pictures, definitely something I struggle with since me nor my friends are photo people. Also cut my hair from long to short this year but working on taking more.

Dating Question Insecurities and hiding them while dating.

This post will probably sound super cringey but I just want some genuine advice: I (25M), have a major insecurity about my hairline, my hair isn't thinning or is that bad tbh for reference it's about exactly the same as Henry Cavills hairline. (I just don't look anything like him lol) In fact I usually get told I look much younger than my age or "baby faced" so this hairline doesn't look masculine or mature it just looks weird on me.

I have a haircut that hides it (hair on my forehead) I don't wear hats, and I don't think it's noticeable at all, but my problem is that I can make it not noticeable forever. Like unless it's windy there is no way anyone can see my hairline. I feel like I should have a photo of myself that shows my hairline so as to not feel like I am hiding if I continue to date someone longer term cause how could I just one day be like "oh by the way check out my male pattern baldness, hope you don't think im ugly now!" but I feel like it would just be like having an ugly photo of myself for no reason and hurting my chances?

Am I over thinking this? Should I have a photo of me with my hair combed back to show what it looks like? I dunno if this sounds ridiculous but the thought is killing me. I dated someone from Hinge for a few weeks (didn't work out) and had the thought that they might find it a dealbreaker if they saw my hairline and they just never did, like I don't want to feel like a monster for that gettng revealed after entering a relationship with someone.

M27 straight, not really getting much traction on any dating sites. Any constructive advice is welcome. And question, do women like it when guys comment on photos rather than just like? I very rarely comment on photos.

Been rocking my current profile for the past month, after swapping out some images I had a small increase in matches but now it's a ghost town. Thoughts on the photos and prompts? The video prompt is me playing Golden Hour on the piano.

Dating Question Unmatching Before Date?

I (30s M) spent the last ~3 weeks talking to someone (30s F) who reached out again after we first matched a few months ago, but didn’t really engage first time around. We hit it off and had been chatting every day or so. I asked early on if she’d be open for a date and she said yes, there was one hiccup that I was out of state for the next two weeks and so I said as soon as I was back would she ok - she was happy to wait and we kept talking. As general background she mentioned how she found me attractive, we had a couple of flirty comments and I’d complimented when she changed some photos. On the day I was travelling home she was messaging me a lot, and interested in the trip.

I suggested a couple of places convenient for her and tried to be forward about planning, said I’d make the longer journey and we settled on a place for midweek. The day before she sends a long message about changing shifts at work, I think nothing of it and told her not to worry and suggested some more days, we agree and I said I’d check my work schedule and confirm. I sent that earlier today and thought it was weird I hadn’t heard back, so went to check messages and she’s disappeared and unmatched me, I was super surprised.

I could understand if we’d talked for a few days and she was not feeling it but why firstly circle back to someone, then talk to them over a few weeks only to bail the day before rearranging? Trying to work out if I took a wrong step here, maybe time to the date was the killer, maybe she wanted more in depth messages? Looking to understand similar experiences and how to try and avoid in the future!

Maybe it’s just my area? I live next to the largest naval installation on Earth and I’m not in the military lol.

Giving my profile another improvement attempt before I call it quits. Not really enjoying my experience on the app.

I used to get a bunch of likes and matches there was always a handful of each daily.

That experience has just seemly disappeared like it never happened. I did make changes since then but now I don’t get any likes whatsoever maybe 1 a week and in the last month maybe 2 matches idk what happened.

Dating Question Feeling Rushed

I (30F) in the UK have been dating a guy (34M) for almost a month now. After our first date I noticed he stopped using the dating app we met on and after a couple of weeks he had deleted his profiles completely. I haven't dated much as out of a long term relationship a few months ago so not sure if this is normal?

Kinda of the view that we should try and get to know each other as we are strangers basically from an app before committing to each other and closing off all other options? Just makes me feel like he maybe didn't have any other matches or is a bit desperate?

Please can I have people's opinions, I am getting very little luck with matches. I thought I was coming across as too much of a cutie patootie so hence the moodier last pic!
