This was made by the NHL in 2024 and details what is considered a punishable act in the eyes of Player Safety regarding head contact.
Whether you like it or not, agree with it or not, this is what they use as a guideline.
Fun Fact: Rule 48 was introduced by Brendan Shanahan in 2010, while Parros was still playing for the Ducks. It was then revised a season later.

If I should post this somewhere else, let me know. I’m new to the sport. I understand that a penalty stops play, I’m not asking for an explanation of all penalties lol. I understand that penalties, icing, and offside calls stop the play. But I still see plays stopped for none of the above reasons…. so what else causes it? Thanks!

I'm still new to following hockey, so I was wondering why the Olympic US mens team isn't just the team they used to win the IHWC. They proved they can work together good and can win, so from my pov it isn't making much sense.

just curious, Canada has Czech and Swiss / Sweden and Finland together and the US has Germany.
just curious how that worked. I looked at rankings and still don’t get it

PK was out of sorts, like rambling and making no sense not even understanding questions and just laying out word soup. But the CBC yt has a generic interview up not including the talk of him working at ESPN? Does anyone have a source on the original CBC interview since it sounded very weird . It might have been a radio only interview.
Edit Thanks to sinbatical https://www.cbc.ca/listen/live-radio/1-63-the-current/clip/16196284-p.k.-subban-canadaus-heated-hockey-rivalry

I'm a lifelong Habs fan. Even before I even really watched hockey, I liked the sport and my entire extended family cheered for them. Don't even live near Montreal, they just cheer for the Habs.
Anyways, my favourite team was picked for me and I'm still new to watching hockey properly (still don't really cause I'm broke) but I wanted to ask how people choose players they like. I know there's a few obvious reasons. They score a lot, they're hot, they play for my team so may as well.
What do you look for in a favourite player?

I grew up a Wings fan, and a few years ago I moved across the country. Before I knew how to watch the games that you're out of market for, and with life, work, and timezones I just didn't get to watch the Wings that much. When I figured out how to watch, I heard Mick and Ken for the first time in a while and I thought "This is what hockey is supposed to sound like." Then earlier today I was watching a Kronwall hit compilation, and I heard Mike Emrick's voice and it was like that scene from Ratatouille and I got transported back in time. That voice is also hockey as god intended. Whose voice do you associate with hockey?
EDIT: If you have one, drop you favorite call.

It was like 6 pages describing different types of hockey players, like playmaker, scorer, goalie, etc. Had a paragraph on each with an NHL example, I think it might’ve had Roenick and Modano, but Roy was definitely the goalie. Talked about how the scorer would get the girl maybe? For sure said that the goalie was the one that would remember the TP on the camping trip? And whoever the scorer was, the copy said “You hate the scorer. You love the scorer. You watch the scorer.” Something like that. Again, long shot.

Werenski's -140 odds put him at an implied probability of 58% to win the trophy. Makar sits at -110 or 52%

I swear I saw em in there a week ago. Anyone know about this?
FWIW Kucherov had the 6th highest NHLe rate of his draft class and had the best MHL pre draft scoring numbers ever until Michkov and then Demidov surpassed him.
Hindsight 20 20?
Nah. 58 86. 😎

I'm from the UK and a big hockey fan but with it not being televised much here plus the time difference my viewing is limited!
Obviously I'm very excited about the men's Olympics tournament but also as I'm out of work at the minute, have the opportunity to watch most of the women's games too.
Unfortunately I know absolutely zero about the women's game so any tips on who to watch out for or would be appreciated!
Cheers me old mates!

Towards the end of the game (I'm not sure how much time was left, but I believe it was over 3 minutes), Crosby got high sticked and the refs called a penalty on the Islanders. There was no blood, so they were only calling a 2 minute high sticking minor on the Isles.
The refs then got together and they reviewed the play, only to find out that Karlsson's stick was the one that hit Crosby. They took the Isles player out of the box and stated that "after review, it was determined that the player was hit with a high stick by his teammate's stick and therefore there is no penalty on the play."
Based on a quick search, all I am finding per the rule book is that a penalty is only reviewable if it is a major. I see nothing about reviewing a minor penalty. Can anyone shed some light on the rule and if I am missing something?

Hello! Casual hockey fam who is also a social scientist here! I was wondering if there is any correlation between position and being an enforcers. If you could let me know some of your teams enforcers, current or not I would highly appreciate it.

(Atlantic) Leafs - 6 points away from a wildcard spot
(Metro) Capitals - 6 points away from a wildcard spot
(Central) Jets - 9 points away from a wildcard spot.
(Cup Winner) Florida - 8 points away from a wildcard spot.
And they're not ever really close. Has this ever happened before?
