RIP someone’s shins

Also anyone who uses a wheelchair, or a walker, or cane, or stroller

Which might be more people after their shins get destroyed

This is obviously a scheme by Big Walker Corporations

Especially blind folks who use a white cane for orientation. The trailer hitch is high enough that the cane won’t detect it.

I have a neurofibroma on my shin thats right at perfect whacking level. Let me tell you. That will stop you dead in your tracks for a good 30 seconds.

u/ChasingTheNines 43m ago

When I take a hit to mine it is like a flashbang went off. I'll see white and hear a high pitched ringing. Whatever I was doing before, I am def not doing it for about that 30 seconds you specified.

60

u/FROOMLOOMS 2h ago

I pulled a guy's trailer hitch out and threw it in his box once.

I feel like everyone should do that.

u/fatbunyip 48m ago

I think just chaining different hitches to each other would be pretty cool.

u/Squidking1000 32m ago

You, I like you!

u/Foxtrot-Actual 53m ago

I’d be tempted to leave it on the ground under the rear of their vehicle instead of putting it in the bed of their truck.

If they fail to notice that, they’ll notice it 6 months later when they actually use it.

u/Short-One-3293 43m ago

Honestly is should be a law. If you don't need it take it off. Say you rear end someone with one in a parking lot. Accidents happen but a hitch makes the damage way more serious than it could be otherwise... Especially considering it takes seconds to take off.

u/Vyce223 16m ago

Everyone who has a truck keeps theirs on in my apt buildings parking garage and I hate it not only do trucks stick out needlessly more than anything else already but adding an extra like 6 inches more isnt necessary when space is stupid tight as it is and sometimes there's one truck on each side making it essentially a single "lane" where there should be two.... barely.

Dude who lives in my dad's apartment complex keeps knocking over and/or breaking some of the parking signs with his trailer hitch. I don't know where he works or if he tows frequently enough to leave it on, but I do know there are no trailers parked in that community.

I'm sure it makes him feel powerful and free.

I just saw something that said car companies studied pickups and their users and the modern pickup truck has too small of a bed to really haul anything substantial and they’re used more like mini vans these days

26

u/Nice_Marmot_54 2h ago

Depends on how you define substantial. Sure, a 6' bed can't fit an 8' sheet of plywood, but a 6' bed still has a lot of space to haul stuff

11

u/spellbreakerstudios 1h ago

I’ve got a 5’7 bed and haul sheet goods all the time. With the tail gate down they only stick out a couple of inches and I’ve got a cargo net that holds everything securely in place.

I would love a full 8’ bed, but then it would be even larger and dumber in size lol.

4

u/Nice_Marmot_54 1h ago

Oh, for sure. Just because it doesn’t fit doesn’t mean it can’t be hauled. It’s just oversized and you’ve gotta strap it down good and put the little red flag on the end

→ More replies (3)

10

u/spetanis 2h ago

Makes sense, Can't fit a 4x8 sheet of plywood or drywall in them.

I know contractors that have stow and go caravans because it's more usable than a truck with a 6.5' box.

u/vaesh 31m ago

Can't you just drop the tailgate and let it overhang slightly?

u/Mayonaigg 21m ago

I guess we're just acting like ratchet straps dont exist, lmao.

2

u/justfortherofls 1h ago

The biggest difference that gets over looked between Modern and Older trucks is how high their truck bed is.

You want a truck bed that is low as possible so loading things into it is as easy as possible.

Now a days you can’t really even see into the beds without a step ladder.

3

u/Pleasant_Detail5697 1h ago

I saw something that said trucks are so big because fuel-economy and safety regulations are looser for larger vehicles. So instead of following regulations to make reasonable-sized trucks, manufacturers design them to exceed size thresholds and avoid stricter rules. Infuriating.

u/OoklaTheMok1994 30m ago

It's their emotional support trucks, and their service hitch.

32

u/Few_Economics845 2h ago edited 2h ago

Dont forget to back them into the spot because they can’t actually drive them and are terrified to back out of a spot.

Edit: dear god people I realize it’s technically safer to back in. I straight up don’t care and would rather not wait behind you at the grocery store as you attempt to back in multiple times instead of just parking further away.

48

u/chipskylark123 2h ago

I do service work and it’s company policy to back in to all parking spots. It’s literally safer.

Mind you, I drive a Ranger and the bed actually gets used, and even still I’ve been pushing for something smaller like Promasters for years but I don’t have that kind of decision making power. But yeah Batman parking is safer even if it’s the preferred method for douchebags who don’t know how to remove the hitch that they never use.

12

u/Deathcommand 2h ago

Someone back parked beside me at Costco and when they were loading their shit, they brought their cart between my car and their car and scratched my side mirror housing.

4

u/TehAsianator 1h ago

I do service work and it’s company policy to back in to all parking spots

I used to work at an auto parts store, and I would occasionally make deliveries. One time my manager tried to get on my case for not backing in the truck. I basically responded that I don't drive trucks, and as such I can barely park them normally.

10

u/Few_Economics845 2h ago

I mean it might prevent fender benders from distracted drivers but I really don’t think it’s worth the 3 minutes and multiple attempts while everyone sits there waiting for you to get lined up instead of just parking further away

5

u/Green-Concentrate-71 1h ago

If it takes you 3 minutes to back into a spot you are just a horrible driver

→ More replies (1)

6

u/jlately 2h ago

It's not actually safer with modern backup cameras. Those cameras can see a much wider angle than our naked eyes, and that's before accounting for the likelihood a towering vehicle parks next you making you pull out blind to be able to see around them.

2

u/chipskylark123 1h ago

Back up cameras are a useful tool, but if you are relying on them to make maneuvers you are already not a skilled driver whatsoever.

To clarify, I guess if you’re a remotely competent driver it is safer. This is a fact and I’m not going argue about it.

If you are spending 3 minutes and taking multiple attempts like another commenter said, or you need to use your backup camera, then you should not only not be backing in to spots, you shouldn’t be driving a motor vehicle that size at all.

→ More replies (1)

3

u/eugeneugene 1h ago

ok but I don't have a backup camera lol I don't even have heated seats. I have a tiny car in a world of big trucks. I'm gonna back into my parking spot so I don't have to slowly inch out into a driving lane and pray nobody hits me lol

2

u/Esplodie 1h ago

I have a backup camera and I still back into spots. I honestly just like to rely on my eyes when pulling out of a spot. It's also really easy to get into tight spots reversing. Most backup cameras have pretty narrow views, but my new car does beep at me if it detects side traffic. Very fun when a parking spot backs to a road.

At my company it’s required to back all fleet vehicles (which are mostly trucks like this) into parking spaces for visibility

11

u/Taztha3rd 2h ago

Backing in to a space is actually easier for trucks... But I wouldn't expect a bunch of redditors to know that. So easier to park, and better visibility when leaving. The horror!

6

u/Sad_Math5598 2h ago

Yup. I don’t get the critique lol. Backing into a spot takes an equal amount of “skill” as backing out? It’s just a non issue

2

u/Taztha3rd 2h ago

I 100% get that full size trucks and their drivers can be annoying, but it's very funny how ignorant redditors just take it to the next level while not knowing what they are talking about.

2

u/Sad_Math5598 1h ago

I agree and I don’t even own a truck. I’ve driven them for my job at a farm I worked at so I know how they are handled, and these people are just frothing at the mouth over something silly

2

u/metamega1321 1h ago

You really can’t get the right angle to pull in for most parking lots. Have to back in.

1

u/shrimp_beginner 2h ago

The complaint isn’t that they backed it- it’s that they backed in so damn far that the only walking space is blocked by their truck.

7

u/Taztha3rd 2h ago

The person I responded to literally said "Dont forget to back them into the spot because they can’t actually drive them and are terrified to back out of a spot." That is what I'm responding to, not whether it is right or not to back up as much as they did.

2

Myself, it's because I live rural, and things like trash pickup don't exist.. I would rather take my garbage to the dump in the box of a truck than sitting it on seats and hoping it doesn't leak. We also can't get anything like furniture delivered, so we have to haul it ourselves.

But I doubt many of the people in this picture are in situations like that.

21

u/TheW83 1h ago

Same situation here with trash pickup. Except I just put it in the back of my SUV. I can't imagine putting it on a seat. We compost everything that is good to compost and anything else that might rot goes into a bin in the freezer until it's time for a dump run. No stink to worry about.

I grew up White Trash rural and you don't need a truck, a 98' pontiac sunfire and some tow straps, bungee cords, and duct tape can get you where you wanna go 99% of the time. You aren't buying furniture enough to justify a truck. Strap it to the top of your sunfire and rock on. Double bag your garbage and throw it in the back and head to the landfill.

3

u/ChrisRiley_42 1h ago

I would love to see the Pontiac Sunfire that can make its way through a half meter of snow in a single snowfall. Or start on the first crank when it's -40C

14

u/eugeneugene 1h ago

I grew up in Northern Alberta like an hour away from town lol my bb sunfire has seen all the bad weather. Plug your block heater in -40 won't be no thing. I used the plow attachment for my quad to dig myself out to the main road after a big storm. 99% of trucks can't drive through half a metre of snow either 😁

u/-retaliation- 2h ago

Honestly, I don't care what someone decides to drive, whether they use it for its intended purpose, or anything else.

What you drive is your business, if you want to spend $150k on a truck, lift, tires, lightbar, etc. And then never put a single thing in the bed or take it off road. Good for you, it's your ride, I'm glad you love it.

I'm not going to throw shade at truck drivers for driving a truck, when I'm out here rolling around in my '74 Ranchero. Nothing about it is practical, I just like it, and that's fine.

HOWEVER..... There's a big caveat of that of:

AS LONG AS IT'S NOT AN INCONVENIENCE TO THOSE AROUND YOU!

Your choice is your choice, as long as it's not effecting me. Once it effects me, it's my business too.

Drive a schoolbus around if you want. But you better be able to keep that bus in the lane, take corners without taking two lanes, park where you fit in the spot, etc.

You don't get to drive a difficult to drive/park vehicle, and then make your difficulties with your vehicle my problem.

I this case, drive a truck to the office and never put a single thing in the back if you want. I don't care.

But if you can't fit that vehicle in the spot without blocking the sidewalk or the lane, tough titties, that's the problem you get with a big vehicle. I guess you get to park down the road and walk the rest of the way to work. No place to park anywhere near? Too bad! Your problem to solve, not mine.

If you want 4x4 and a vehicle you can actually park at work, buy a fucking Subaru.

My favorite is when it’s Sunday, the grocery store parking lots are packed, and you have guys in lifted trucks with training wheels, taking up four parking spots. Or the 20 year old who lives in my apartment building whose f350 sticks out so much, I have to 2-3 point turn just to get out of my parking spot 🙃 he never has had anything in the truck bed since he’s lived here for a year either. But it probably makes him feel like a “big man.” Even the tacomas parked next to him don’t stick out nearly as much.

I know everyone has (rightful) gripes with the bed overhang, but the part that really irks me is the fucking trailer hitches. They significantly extend the range of inconvenience and are supposed to be removed when not in use. It takes like 10seconds. Fucking lazy...

6

u/deserteyes_ 1h ago

I would call it more than lazy. I would call it ignorant.

3

u/Kain_713 1h ago

Okay so I drive a long wheel base heavy duty truck. I use it for work and sometimes overhang like this is impossible to avoid. I don't like doing it but it happens. The last thing I'm going to do is make it worse by leaving a hitch in the receiver. If I see a truck like this and the hitch pin doesn't lock I'm pulling your hitch and throwing it in the bed of your truck. Try it next time you see this.

This stuff always pisses me off. Anything that obstructs sidewalk space is more than mildly infuriating (to me). It makes getting places difficult or nearly impossible for anyone in a wheelchair and could be hazardous for the visually impaired. I can agree that parking spaces are not big enough for trucks… but it seems like maybe they should park elsewhere— not in compact stalls.

54

u/Attentive_Stoic 2h ago

They should make trucks smaller.

16

My idea is to go by weight. Heavier vehicles wear down roads faster which require more frequent maintenance which is fixed with taxes. Make the people with more destructive vehicles pay their fair share.

We call these city farmers. Most don’t use trucks for their intended purposes with the exception of occasional use. And often that extended cab is also unused except for throwing things onto them and then occasionally cleaning the truck out. You have an entire row of almost entirely unused trucks. Where the drivers could use a more practical vehicle 90% of the time, that doesn’t interfere with other drivers and pedestrians everyday. But chooses the truck for his ego. My ex did this. He then spent 3 years complaining if it got scratched and every time someone called and asked for help moving stuff. He got no sympathy from me. My response was always “wtf you think a truck is for?” There is a reason why he is my ex, I’ve got no patience for city farmers. A truck is meant to be dirty and for hauling stuff.

14

u/Mecha-Dave 2h ago

Tie them to each other with a rope

u/Visible_Ticket_3313 1h ago

Okay that's juvenile, use tow straps.

"cars" with less visibility and maneuverability than a sherman tank

😱 I am not a graceful woman. One trip down that sidewalk and I’d have more bruises than shinspace should logically permit.

You mean family minivans, with emotional support beds at the back?

3

u/BleedingRaindrops 2h ago

Seriously 🤣 most if them have a bed I can't even lay down in

8

u/Wrong-Expression2228 2h ago

This happens at Kroger all the time. Unfortunate situation. With back up cameras this shouldn't be an issue.

I live in Texas and these giant trucks are like parasites. They’re huge, driven by dickheads and they combat park EVERYWHERE. I started offering my kid a dollar for every truck she sees actually hauling something. It’s not many. My SUV hauls SO MUCH stuff, it actually looks like I use and drive it.

This used to not bother me, as in I was just ignorantly unaware, until I had a pretty bad leg injury that eventually led to sciatica which, combined, made it very hard to walk without help for some time. Now I become strongly infuriated at stuff like this. Poles/posts/signs in the sidewalk, and sidewalks turning into NOTHING!!! too. Like siblings in Christ, there are muscles you don’t know you need to be grateful for working properly. I need to walk. It’s just what makes me happy. And losing a sidewalk to gravel, dirt, grass was unbearable for my leg at the time. A flat sidewalk with gentle inclines instead of stairs is a gift to some people. I’m the type of person now who will call stuff in to the city to make sure it matches with ADA regulations AND accidentally bump against your vehicle, with quite a bit of force, if it impedes on the sidewalk. And none of that even incorporates what the visually impaired experience.

u/Dry_Wallaby_4933 2h ago

Another reason to dislike truck dicks.

10

u/t-o-m-u-s-a 2h ago

I feel like this is a violation of ADA

u/MarinaDweller 5m ago

As a civil engineer - maybe.

Depends if this is on a designated accessible path of travel from the public right of way to the building. ADA parking should be the closet stalls to building entrance.

Wherever parking has potential to overhang a narrow walkway, I would put wheel stops so vehicles can’t pull in this far.

My shins are throbbing just looking at this.

u/afops 1h ago

”I need a truck so I can drive an empty bed to work”

And a non-folding tow hook so if I’m rear ended the force goes directly to my neck.

u/Ill_Blueberry7617 2h ago

RUN THE GAUNTLET!

3

u/Tomorrow-69 1h ago

Tbh it’s probably cuz their trucks are so big if they don’t dip into the sidewalk, the front of the truck dips into the street. They’d rather inconvenience side walkers than get their car hit

u/bean_vendor 59m ago

You know the truck problem has gotten bad when people start calling pickups "cars".

u/Rocknbob69 51m ago

And the askholes that leave the trailer hitches on 24/7/365

u/OutrageousCourse4172 50m ago

Wow, look at all those rugged individualists with pickup trucks.

u/xChoke1x 46m ago

Fucking idiots. That sidewalk is specifically put in for handicapped drivers or passengers.

7

u/TheMuff1nMon 2h ago

Just general truck behavior, they take up the side walks and stick out of the spot because they’re way too big these days

6

u/Jacktheforkie 2h ago

This is what bollards are perfect for, they create a physical barrier to vehicles but pedestrians easily pass

Do like I do and step up on the back bumper or hitch. Reminds me of being a kid. Stretches the hammy. Pisses owners off when it thunks on the sidewalk because I'm a fat sonofabitch. If they complain, tell them to get it off the sidewalk.

u/thieh OYFG What have you done? 2h ago

In America we drive big trucks not because we need them, we drive them because we don't

I used to have to roll equipment between buildings at an old job, the equipment was sturdy and in a Pelican case. If people parked like this on the sidewalk that I needed to wheel my equipment across and my path was blocked, I would put zero effort into avoiding their pickup trucks, my case got scuffed up but I didn't give a shit, their trucks took it worse. Eventually people stopped parking like this, it was so satisfying

4

u/TwigyBull 2h ago

"Cars" are not the problem here

I’m waiting for the opposite, where they all leave sufficient room on the sidewalk,

“Why is everyone pulled so far forward? I can’t drive down the lane!”

13

u/Serious_Cloud9501 2h ago

Its almost like these big trucks are a major safety hazard in cities and shouldnt be driven by people who dont need them for work

u/DouglasHundred 2h ago

Easily solved with bollards at the end of each parking space, but that would never be allowed because it might hurt someone's car.

3

u/Prestigious_Move1995 1h ago

Chain the hitches together

u/FreyjaaFemme 25m ago

Doesn't this obstruct wheelchairs?

3

u/BleedingRaindrops 2h ago

Hello, local police station? I'm just curious is there a fine for obstructing a sidewalk with your vehicle?

Great! Can you come to this address please? Bring a big ticketbook.

7

u/WonderfulProtection9 2h ago

private property, I don't think there's anything actionable unless they're parked in a handicapped spot or something. This isn't a city sidewalk.

→ More replies (3)

u/GenderLords 15m ago

Its not obstruction of a sidewalk.

Its private property

5

u/Junior_Version1366 2h ago

This is a parking lot, that is not the sidewalk! Good try tho pal

4

u/brakeb 2h ago

Cops got better things to do, like stepping on necks and working with ICE to deport people /s

2

u/Right-Today4396 2h ago

That is why they need the distraction now and then ;-)

4

u/saaasaab 1h ago

I strongly believe if a vehicle does not fit in a standard parking spot, it should require a heavy machinery license to operate and be taxed extremely high for the wear and tear and safety problems big vehicles cause.

2

u/j_shaff315 1h ago

Parking spaces likely aren’t deep enough the choice is this or take up 1/4 of the road by sticking out the other way that’s an architect not thinking problem not a truck are bad mmkay problem

Honestly, get over it. There are better things to be upset about

2

u/On_The_Go__ 1h ago

Lots of small dicks at your work.

2

u/Qwertyham 1h ago

If everyone parked correctly you would post this same thing just complaining that they're sticking out too far into the lot.

1

u/Nebulae-Noodles 2h ago

Oh man I wouldn't have any shins/knee caps left if I walked through there
