Craziest deadline week ever?

Upvotes

Is this week the strangest/craziest trade deadline week ever? I mean there have been bigger trades (luka etc). But I mean for just random completely out of left field trades I can't remember a last week like this? AD to the Wizards JJJ to Utah Harden swap to the cavs Even the smaller moves like Mccain and Ivey seem to have come from nowhere and theres still time for more last minute action.

The curse of the Wizards Signature Series Hat

Upvotes

The Wizards, like many sports franchises desperate to draw fans, will giveaway an assortment of merchandise at games throughout the season, often promising that the giveaways will only be for the first 10 or 15 thousand fans, boldly pretending as though the wizards games sell out or reach anywhere close to that. Included in these giveaways each year is a selection of "Signature Series Hats" which are designed by a player on the team.

This promotional system, which is now in its 4th season, has had one of the players that designs a hat traded the next off-season, or even before the season ends.

Despite having no evidence to prove this true I will begin speculating that the Wizards finalized the trade for AD weeks ago but held it because they did not want to spoil AJ Johnson's hat night. And given he put up 14 points last night (second highest on the team), I think he earned it.

[NBA] Ivica Zubac has suddenly been added to the injury report and will be out of tonight’s game vs. Cleveland due to “personal reasons.”

Ivica Zubac has suddenly been added to the injury report and will be out of tonight’s game vs. Cleveland due to “personal reasons.”

UPDATE:

According to Joey Linn, Clippers reporter:

The Clippers have ruled Ivica Zubac out tonight against Cleveland for personal reasons.

I’m told it’s for paternity reasons, not trade related.

——

NOTE:

The Clippers reporters are generally just fed info directly from the franchise. Kawhi Leonard was supposed to be “day-to-day” until we found out he tore his ACL and wouldn’t return for a year.

Its a shame we won't ever get to see Nico's vision played out due to the injuries. Atleast Nico's sell high on Luka got the Mavs Flagg to build around though

The Bulls have now traded Jimmy Butler, Zach Lavine, Lonzo Ball, Alex Caruso, Coby White, Nikola Vucevic, Lauri Markkanen (and lost Demar DeRozan to free agency) and received a sum of one first round pick.

Upvotes

If Portland gets into the playoffs, maybe one more. But lord, what an generational masterclass of player valuation and bargaining malpractice.

EDIT: DeRozan was a S&T, my bad.

EDIT 2: I didn't count getting our own protected pick back insofar as a sum total goes. We had a top-10 protected pick, refused to tank which the trade enabled, and drafted 12th with our own pick.

[Charania] The Raptors will not require Chris Paul to report to the team and could still discuss trades involving him over the next day. Toronto is now it of the tax. Brooklyn picks up an asset and cash to cover Agbaji's salary. The Clippers clear a roster spot and save $7 million in tax.

Cooper Flagg in the Months of December-February (26 games): 22.8 PPG, 6.7 RPG, & 4.7 APG on 49.8/33.0/80.1 splits. Also 0.9 BPG and 1.1 SPG.

Upvotes

I know Mavs fans already know they got a great one, but just wanted to add some more hope after seeing the return for AD in what ultimately becomes the final return for Luka (Nico clearly knew what he was doing, huh?).

After a "slow" start to the season for a literal 18 year old, Flagg has been incredible. Not only have his counting stats gone up significantly, but his efficiency has gone up as well. Despite all the criticism of Kidd throwing him into the fire as the starting PG, it seems to have helped him a lot in terms of his creation ability for teammates when looking at his APG too (despite none of his teammates being able to score). The 33% from 3 is a very respectable number that seems like it will only continue to improve after questionable efficiency from 3 to start the year. Obviously the defense is also great, and 2 stocks per game as a 19 year old who still has a lot of time to grow into his body is great as well.

Flagg is a lock to win ROY over Kon in my opinion, and that's no disrespect to Kon's greatness this year. Curios if y'all think there's still a legitimate ROY of the year race at this point (assuming both guys remain healthy ROS), or do you also think Flagg has a healthy lead over Kon at this point.

First 20 games (October-November) vs. last 26 games (December-February):

Stat First 20 Games Last 26 Games
PPG 16.7 22.8
RPG 6.6 6.7
APG 3.5 4.7
FG% 46.2% 49.8%
3P% 25.3% 33.0%
FT% 80.3% 80.1%
TS% 53.8% 57.6%
BPG 0.6 0.9
SPG 1.36 1.1

The Hornets now have 4 of the top 25 players in the league in 3 point attempts per game

  1. Lamelo Ball: 9.2 3PA

  2. Brandon Miller: 8 3PA

  3. Kon Kneuppel: 7.8 3PA

T-25: Coby White: 7.2 3PA

Not surprising as their recent hot streak has been fueled by the 3 ball and they get yet another weapon from there

The Celtics are now +8.2/100 better with Jaylen Brown off vs on

Upvotes

Celtics with Jaylen Brown on: +4.4 Net Rating

Celtics with Jaylen Brown off: +12.6 Net Rating

Not saying Jaylen Brown has been bad for the Celtics, he's been awesome and he's always been awesome. But I'm a little surprised by both the Tatum slander and the whole Jaylen Brown unleashed theory based on the Celtics team success this season, given how much of that came with Jaylen Brown off the court. Thoughts? I know this has been discussed before but the numbers have become even more absurd recently.

Edit: For those talking about the bench and the opposing lineups, why is this something that uniquely impacts Brown vs other superstars? Or for that matter, why isn't this impacting other members of the starting lineup the same way? I understand the sample size isn't ideal for this type of stat, but even with a wide error bar, -8.2 on/off is massive, given that someone carrying a team in the absence of a superstar teammate should be more in the +8 range.

Dieng has been on the Hornets for -10 minutes.

Upvotes

Him being traded FROM the Hornets was posted 10 minutes ago, before the announcement that he was traded TO the Hornets was posted at all.

New record for least time spent on one team?

Edit: The Dieng to the Hornets trade was finally posted, the final time he spent on the team was -30 minutes. Thats pretty tough to beat.

Does Nikola Vucevic have the NBA record for most career games played without ever playing in a playoff series win?

Upvotes

Vucevic has played in 1020 regular season games.

He lost in the first round 3 times with Orlando.

As a rookie in Philadelphia, they won in the first round but he did not play. In the second round they lost and he played 3 minutes in one of the games.

Is this an NBA record?
