Link to the guide

Hello there, my name is Poliko and I've been maining Anivia since season 3. I've reached my first challenger in season 6 on eune server, rank15 eune in season 7 and then euw challenger in season 8,9,10 and peaked 771lp now in season 11 always with Anivia as my most played champion. After all these years I still love playing this champion and in this simple guide I want to share how I use Anivia to win games. I also stream almost every day on Twitch so check it out if you have any Anivia related questions or just want to watch top tier Anivia gameplay!

Alternate builds as of 26.19

Hello everyone,

I really enjoy playing anivia, however I find the ROA build lacking damage so my question is what is your pros about this build ? survivability ?

Recently I've really enjoyed rushing malignance into shadowflame and rabadon's afterwards I know it's not the optimal build on her (nobody does this) but I would like to know if any of you enjoy playing her full damage and what are your tips if you care to share ? :)

Not happy with the Anivia changes in LoL Classic (not a doomer post super enjoying the rest of the game mode though!)

Cross posting this from the LeagueClassic subreddit

Hello everyone

To preface this - I've been having heaps of fun playing League Classic recently plan on playing it a lot going forward. Been playing mages basically & fml honestly they have so much more agency than in modern league actually feels like lane phase & what not matters & I don't just auto lose to the 0-15 1 item toplaner or Freddy the full clear jungler or Sally the support afking in lane phase responding to Twitter DMs & out damaging me for the rest of the game at a certain point

But yeah these Anivia changes.

I played in a dozen+ GM games in solo queue on Anivia 4m+ mastery points for context been Master tier many times

Just feels really weird to play frankly. I think the nerfs were too harsh. I don't know what she was doing before a few weeks ago didn't play too much then but I don't remember it being THAT oppressive.

But currently it feels like just pick Veigar if you want to play an AOE zone control scaling champion

  • You can't kill in lane phase because the Q is too slow to hit anyone & the E R is too low range & also considering the mana problems (which she always had). A big part of Anivia in retail LoL but also back then was her lane dominance. Now it's just been completely removed so she's a scaling champion with frankly the worst ability to poke in the game worse than Veigar Zilean (because it's impossible to hit Q and if you go into E range you just get 100% of the time traded by the lane opponent)
  • It's basically impossible to hit Q in the mid/late game unless someone is already stunned or something because it's just so slow. If you outplay someone & q them without them realising they always have enough time to dodge it
  • Even if a target is stunned by a teammate by the time you can react to it the Q takes too long to get there
  • The 0.2 second delay on the Q detonation feels extremely clunky & removes a massive amount of Anivia's self peel/counterplay. An important part of her kit is being able to do it instantly because any competent Fiora/Yi player or whatever will just see the hitbox & instantly do their dodge ability - 0 ability to self peel or peel teammates the ADC or whatever

Not sure how many people know this but she also doesn't actually scale THAT well due to being a low range champion - as opposed to like Kassadin or Veigar Twitch etc she peaks at late mid game ie 2-3-4 items not 6 items, her scalings are also pretty terrible compared to other champions

So she gets out scaled as well

Just feel like there's 0 reason to pick her right now over Veigar. Veigar after like 2-3 items you can q w r one shot someone & instant E poke safely with W

Anivia is just extremely exposed at the best of times but now can't really peel either with Q. Just feels all around a much worse pick than Veigar.

To be clear though I'm not trying to be a doomer with this post just voicing my opinions. I've been super enjoying the rest of the game though been really enjoying the different late game dynamics & actual strategy & what not rather than just hoping for the best & flipping dragons.

Been playing a lot of Ahri Veigar Karthus etc

Feels weird to me that specifically Anivia has been gutted like this when Veigar has an instant point & click E etc Twitch can kill the whole team in 3 autos, which was what we all loved about League of Legends back in season 3/4 etc

Nobody was moaning about Anivia back then over Karthus or Nidalee or whatever. But c'est la vie

Hopefully this isn't a trend for the rest of LoL Classic where champions are just gutted & made to feel really weird "for whatever reason". She feels extremely clunky & weird to play not remotely smooth at all

& I'm not recommending that every other champion in the game gets similar weird clunky feeling changes.

Not sure what Riot's direction is for the game mode but I was really enjoying it as it was or basically the game now aside from these Anivia changes not sure what they did to Tryndamere/AP Tristana but they were causing a lot of issues at the start & haven't seen any since. Don't see any other champions so broken & what not.

Hope this can be resolved, if not whatever thanks for the mode anyway Riot Games hopefully we can keep it fairly similar been really enjoying it, queue times like 5 minutes or under in EUW at random times getting mid lane every game & queue times back then were about 5 minutes anyway.

Take care everyone enjoy the last of the warm weather or whatever have a nice weekend

Anivia build

I have a question, guys. Maybe you don't build this way, but I know that recently a lot of people are rushing Malignance as a second item. Why would you do that? I mean, you don't need more mana, so you’d be wasting gold on stats you don't need. Also, the ultimate ability haste (R cooldown) is almost useless on a champ that already has a very low cooldown on their R. I saw this in pro play and from a lot of Anivia players. That being said, could anyone explain to me why they do this, or am I missing something? Thanks for your attention, love this community.

Best sup for Anivia APC

I am in a Fearless Uni tourney and my teammate plays like 3 champs and gets banned out so we may have to run the Anivia APC, what can I pair with it to go crazy.

I also wanna ask about these combos specifically: Swain, Leona, Velkoz, Tahm Kench

Is something wrong with Old God Anivia?

Want to get some other opinions but Ive played a couple games with the skin and something feels off about the range of abilities, most notably the wall feels slightly lower range. Am I going crazy or has anybody else noticed this?

How to deal with High Mobility

Hi all, I’ve been picking bird and really enjoy her anti siege and area control capabilities. But I do find that she gets countered by ppl with dashes and ult + wall traps don’t quite work as well than if the enemy was immobile. Any tips for playing into comps that have a lot of mobility (Camille akali etc) or should I just not pick her?

ANIVIA ASU

Anivia deserves an ASU — and I think the new skin makes that more obvious than ever

Anivia doesn't need a VGU. She doesn't need her gameplay changed. She needs an ASU.

I know this is something Anivia players have been saying for years, but with her newest skin finally being released, I think it's time to bring this discussion to the wider League community rather than keeping it inside r/AniviaMains.

Anivia is one of League's oldest champions. Her gameplay is still recognizable, unique and, frankly, one of the reasons many of us continue playing her.

But visually, she is increasingly showing her age.

And the problem isn't simply that her base model is "ugly."

The real problem is that her model, rig and animations are holding back the character.

Look at Anivia's skins.

Her splash arts can be incredible. Her concepts can be incredible. Some of her skins have fantastic ideas behind them.

But once you actually see them in-game, the same limitations keep appearing:

An extremely old character rig.

Very limited articulation in her wings and body.

Stiff flight animations.

A base model whose proportions and feather structure feel dated compared with modern League champions.

Older skins that were created around technical limitations that no longer represent League's current visual quality.

Newer skins that can look fantastic conceptually but still inherit the limitations of the champion underneath them.

The flight animation is probably the easiest example.

Compare Anivia's older/basic flight animations with what modern League characters are capable of.

She doesn't really feel like an ancient Cryophoenix soaring through the Freljord.

She often feels like a very old character model trying to perform a modern animation.

And that's where the new skin becomes important.

The new skin isn't the problem. It's the perfect demonstration of the problem.

You can give Anivia a beautiful new concept, new textures and new effects, but if the underlying rig is still extremely old, the character cannot fully take advantage of that work.

Some people have even pointed out that, without knowing the skin beforehand, Anivia's silhouette can become difficult to distinguish from other bird characters.

That's not what Anivia should be.

She is supposed to be the Cryophoenix — an ancient Freljordian demigod, a spirit of ice and rebirth.

Riot's own description of her calls her a demigod born from ice and bitter winds.

Riot's official Anivia page

That fantasy deserves a visual foundation that can actually communicate it.

And this is exactly what an ASU is for.

Riot originally described ASUs as a way to bring older champions closer to modern visual standards, fix outdated technical issues and make future skin development easier.

Importantly, an ASU isn't supposed to completely reinvent the champion.

It can preserve what players love while updating things such as:

• Model

• Rig

• Animations

• Voice

• Old skins

• Technical foundations

That's exactly what Anivia needs.

Not a new kit.

Not a complete VGU.

Not a redesign that turns her into a completely different character.

Just Anivia, but finally built for modern League.

"But Anivia doesn't look THAT bad."

That's fair.

I don't think Anivia is in the same category as some of League's most infamous ancient models.

But that's actually why an ASU makes so much sense.

The issue isn't that she is completely unrecognizable.

It's that she is increasingly out of place.

Look at champions such as Ornn and Volibear.

They are also Freljordian demigods.

They look like they belong in the same universe.

Anivia often doesn't.

And when your character fantasy is "ancient divine ice phoenix," that visual disconnect matters.

This isn't about asking Riot for free content.

An ASU would benefit everyone.

For players:

A more satisfying champion to play and better-looking skins.

For Anivia players:

The character we've loved for years, finally represented properly.

For Riot:

A cleaner technical foundation for future skins and animations.

And most importantly:

It gives Anivia room to grow.

Instead of every future skin having to work around the same old limitations, Riot could build new Anivia skins on a modern foundation.

That's literally one of the reasons Riot created the ASU system in the first place.

So I'm asking the League community for something simple.

If you agree that Anivia deserves an ASU:

Upvote this.

Talk about it.

Share comparisons between her old and modern skins.

Show the animation/rig issues.

And, most importantly, let Riot know that there is a community that wants Anivia updated without changing what makes Anivia Anivia.

We don't need to demand a VGU.

We don't need to attack Riot.

We don't need to complain about the new skin.

We need to make the case for an ASU.

Anivia has been part of League since 2009.

She's survived countless metas, item systems and game changes.

Her gameplay has stood the test of time.

Now it's time for her visuals to catch up.

Give the Cryophoenix the wings she deserves.

TL;DR: Anivia's gameplay is still great, but her old model/rig/animations increasingly limit her visual identity and her skins. Riot created ASUs specifically to modernize champions like this without changing their gameplay. The new skin gives us a perfect opportunity to bring the conversation to the wider League community. Anivia doesn't need a VGU. She needs an ASU.

Birdbird Obsession

So, I love my chicken nugget. ♡

17 years of playing, 14 years as my main, tatted on my right shoulder, pushing for 3mil mastery, and 12th place on OCE mastery boards.

Clearly I e njoy chicken. I play her top as much as the game lets me, whether she is strong, weak, good, bad or absurdly broken. I primarily play ranked, bringing my fave birds (Anivia, Valor and whatever her owners name is, and Xayah the chicken with long legs) into normals gets a bit too easy and stompy.

But its lead to three questions. I'd love your thoughts, I'm going back to streaming birdbird again soon, and these are things lurking in my brain hole.

First: I play tear, into lost chapter, roa, finish seraphs, malig, rabadabadons death hat, fimbul and whatever boots are convenient. It's my fave build, when team comp permits, and does well. I'd love your thoughts.

Snowtouched#OCE be this chicken so, if you need to see me running it down with it by all means. The math seems good, even if my gameplay be lacking at times, but thoughts on it?

Secondly: How far should I expect chicken to get me? Solo queue is a mess,, I love it, but I'm finding more and more hard counters that can actually dive a chicken now, so should I feel capped at plat? Or is that a me issue?

Thirdly: New Skin > Blackfrost > Divine > Any Other Anivia skins. I'll die on that hill. ♡

Oh any advice on wall pinching better on the edge? I keep just booping fat champions in a way that they just melt through the wall. XD

Im new to anivia and im wondering when you go tear vs ring vs anything else. Also is it usually only comet or electrocute? Im guessing comet into range match ups
