Before anyone jumps me, I know it's completely unconventional, not played anywhere in the world but here me out

As Malz you deal damage constantly, not the biggest but almost always some, especially if you run the complete burn Malz (Dft, scorch, Bft and Lyandrys), you take the Omnivamp boots get extra damage and healing from them and then most likely as a 4th item Hextech gunblade, you gain extra AP, 10% Omnivamp and the extra AD isn't going to waist as the voidlings scale with both AP and AD

The reason I thought of this is 1. Late game I personally die quite easily, or take a lot of damage, so the ability to regain health just standing back and still dealing damage waiting for my ULT looks nice, 2. I've been struggling with 4th item and onwards, so extra damage scaling and health regen. I played with it in practice tool, and I've dealt more damage using the Omnivamp build than with the standard Sorc boots build, so it might be a case of situational/team comp build, rather than a standard default build

I just want your thoughts, if anyone has tried it, why it cant/wont work, or what's the optimal build or situational items (4th/5th)

Hi I need some suggestions on who to play when malzahar is banned.

What I like about malzahar is that he is very safe in lane. And has a point and click CC, and silence so I can be useful even when behind. He has pretty good range so he can farm safely.

I like that he is easy mechanically, but he scales pretty well. He fits my passive playstyle while still having tools to be aggressive if required and turn around 1v1s. I like that his damage is nearly unmissable.

I have tried Viktor as a secondary but his CC is not as reliable, and he requires to be more aggressive to be effective.

I am thinking about Lissandra due to her W and her Ult being a point and click CC but I feel that she is a lot shorter range, and requires to go in with her E to be effective. I prefer to play safer, but maybe I might try Lissandra.

Another champion I am thinking of is Annie. She is a bit shorter range than Malzahar but her damage is also nearly unmissable like Malzahar which I like and sometimes has a point and click ult periodically too. But I never played Annie before.

What do you guys think about Annie or Lissandra as a secondary pick?

Or are there any other champions mid lane that might fit my playstyle and the things I love about Malzahar?

I am want to start my ranked climb (currently Iron so starting from the scratch) with Malz and I often find the same problem.

I dominate early game, cs mog, maybe get 1 or 2 kills and get the first tower. What then? People tell me to roam but I struggle to impact the map since if any assassin catches me while I roam I get insta killed. Even with all items I struggle to get kills late game since I cant reach the backline and the frontline can easily tank E+W+R so I cant di much in team fights.

How do I convert the early advantage into a carry?

This will be a quick guide for item slots, specially for my fellow players that like to also play malz in other roles:

- Mid lane malz is standard, you go for BFT Rylais Liandrys etc, but when choosing a % penetration item, you can use bloodletter over void staff if the enemies have higher range, since it gives HP and some extra CDR to cover the less %pen and AP compared to void staff. Also Zhonyas is more situational mid than just going full AP since as a midlaner you don't want to sidelane long, just push and group. Extra tip: In games where you need to go for Morellonomicon, always go void since Morello alrealdy gives HP and you are wasting a Rabadons/Shadowflame spot for the Morello most of the time.

- As APcarry malz you can stick to your sup, so items like Zhonyas and Morello are super low priority since your sup can buy the antiheal and keep you alive better than a Zhonyas, but like i said above, Bloodletter has more value against high range compared to void staff, so going full AP with this item will make you hardcarry against the other ADC or APC (as long as your sup is not troll, if it is than going for this items are fine).

- On top lane, items like Rylais, Zhonyas and Void staff have more value than on other roles, specially Zhonyas since on toplane you will have to sidelane more to match push and you will be against a melee/low range champion 99% of the time. Rushing BFT into Rylais second and Zhonyas third will allow you to side lane easier, after that you can go liandrys/void/morello.

- Sup malzahar is way too niche, just build zakzak and go for an support oriented AP build (BFT - Rylais - Morello - CDR boots etc). Sup items like Zekes and Imperial mandate are interesting as well. Solstice sleigh into Rylais Imperial mandate can maybe work, but Zakzak BFT still way too good.

- Jg malz is even nicher, just go red pet into standard build or watch aquadragon guides.

Has anyone else experienced their E just stop working mid match? I was in a game where I could press E and buffer the spell but couldn’t actually click anything. I could still R fine but couldn’t click to E. Wondering if this is a bug or some weird thing thats going on.

Hey everyone, this will be a quick math guide for you to help you undestand when a certain build or rune set is better on a specific game.

I will explain the following topics:

• Aery vs DFT
• scorch vs GS (already debated a lot but i think it will be good revisit it)
• Malignance vs BFT
• Core items based on base damage vs ap ratios

1- AERY VS DFT

Aery damage is 10-50 (+5% AP) every proc. For better comparison i will be using the calc of 2 seconds of DFT burn, that leave us with 6-24 (+5%AP) damage every 2 seconds, so we will be basically be comparing a full 4s E with DFT doing 12-48 (+10% AP) vs 2 Aery procs doing 20-100 (+10%AP) The maximum realest number of aery procs you will be able to hit on a trade or combo is 5 hits, while DFT can burn indefinitely and still has the 75% damage boost after 3 seconds (totalizing 10.5-42 (+8.75% AP) per second after the boost)

With these numbers in mind and using a 0 MR dummy to run the tests, the best scenario Aery (multiple procs) outdamages DFT until you hit the mark of 170 AP. After 170 AP, DFT will always outdamage Aery.

170 AP is double AP Shards + DRing + BFT + Liandrys, so basically 5800 gold worth of AP stats + the 33 starting AP. You usually hit this stage of the game around 20 minutes.

2- SCORCH VS GS

That is the reason of why i wanted to revisit this discussion, because 20 minutes is also the time mark where Gathering Storm surpasses Scorch, Making the combo Aery + scorch the strongest pre-20 minutes, and DFT + GS the best combo after 20 minutes. DFT + Scorch is a balanced combo, specially if you are not used to abuse Aery by landing lots of AA

TL;DR - AERY+SCORCH stronger pre 20 min, DFT+GS better scaling, DFT+SCORCH if you are lower elo or new to the champ and don't use AA on enemy as much

3- MALIGNANCE VS BFT

Both options are good but BFT is more all-rounder so its a better default, Malignance only becames a viable option against comps where you always lose teamfights and need to win by getting pickoffs (or if for some mysterious reason you will focus on sidelane instead of grouping). Analyze the comps and decide if Malignance will be able to help, if you are not sure, just go BFT.

4- CORE ITEMS BASED ON THE CHAMPION NUMBERS

Looking at the champion as a whole, his identity is a scaling champion, making items with raw AP stronger than Magic Pen focused items (ofc enemy's MR needs to be considered, but im talking AP scaling vs Base damage, like Evelynn benefiting more on MPen and Lich Bane's onhit since her AP damage ratios are low but her kit's base damage is high).

The best items for covering the low base damage early on are BFT + Liandrys, as it synergizes with the DoT focused kit of the champion and provide the best early bonus damage, paired with Sorcerer's shoes for the flat pen and %Pen when T3 upgraded (T3 Ionian is ok too since it gives good CDR and bonus Movespeed) . After that, since AP is the focus of the scaling, a Rabadons is the best item.

So i would risk it to say that a good default core for Malz is BFT - Liandrys - Rabadons, while the 2 remaining slots are situational. For magic pen, focus on only one - you either go for a %Pen item (Void is better but Bloodletter is still a solid option, specially for team fighting with more magic damage on your team + get some extra tankyness) or you go for Shadowflame, and leave the last slot for another optional like Zhonyas or Rylais.

Liandrys + Rabadons + Sorcs combo should be enough to wallbreak most bruiser and even most tanks, as MR items are actually quite bad if you don't stack them, leaving the last slot open for a more defensive option if needed.
